NOAH'S STRING words by Terri Kay Emanuel
-
After a long day the taximan comes home
Crown Heights brownstone
ramen noodles on the dinner table
give thanks to the Lord and say grace
Sternpost mizzenmast fore and aft varnished maple
the taximan paints a finishing touch on his son's model schooner
Crabapple trees
in the land of make believe
Fairy tales hopes and dreams sail across Prospect Park Lake
floating on the end of Noah's string
(orchestral interlude swells; a whirlpool of counterpoint)
Follow in the footsteps of my artisan father
I have worlds to conquer
