Crowne Plaza is on Halsted (if memory serves well) and is pretty close to UC. Probably the closest hotel. Not the nicest, but it's fine. Ritz Carlton is much further, down in the loop (central financial district area), but a nice place. I bet Crowne Plaza might have shuttles to the UC. Otherwise it's about two blocks from Madison, which has a bus that goes straight to the UC
-
I have to note though, all the hotels in the loop will be fine and are near busses to go to the UC and cabs will be abundant (but you will pay to sit in traffic). A lot of businesses might offer shuttles (they do for sporting events at UC).
-
dappa- any suggestions for hotels? Is it hard to get a cab after the show for hotels that aren't nearby?
-
Since things seem to be filling up quick. I booked the Crown Plaza Metro 1.38 miles from the United Center. It's one of the closer hotels I've seen and definitely a better price than most. So I'm booked there from the 8th to the 12th. Hope to see some people there for the after party. Figured if worst came to worst I can walk the mile and change! At 6'08" I'm not too worried about street element.
-
Terry - the United Center is west of the downtown Loop area and very accessible by bus or taxi cabs. Chicago has a ton of taxis and I imagine they would be plentiful before and after the show. I haven't lived in Chicago for five years now, but any time I'd go to UC I'd either get a shuttle from a local restaurant that had a package deal (for basketball or hockey games), take a cab, or I'd drive and park. When looking for hotels it's probably best to stay in downtown loop/Michigan avenue area if you can. If you are ok with AirBnB there will probably be a lot of places available in that area as well. I wouldn't try to get anything too close to the UC as that area isn't the best (I don't even know if there is hotel nearby).

I've stayed there before, it's totally fine. A bit cheaper because you'll be on the west side of the loop so not so central, but there are a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. Plenty of busses and cabs to get you around as well. Bob, I used to live in the West Loop right by the Crowne Plaza so I'm really familiar with the area. I would be careful walking from Ashland to Racine... some kids target concert goers. But hopefully with your height no one will mess with you!!

between my height and my haircut...I think they might get a notion what I do for a living. Maybe I'll add a nice police shirt as well!

thanks, I'll cab in and if necessary walk back after the show.
-
Thanks, dappa. I'll probably search for a hotel in the area you suggested. I wish I could remember where I stayed last time I saw Paul in Chicago, but then, I don't recall what venue he played, either.

Bob's suggestion for Crowne Plaza is a good one. Closer than most hotels and more affordable. You won't be in the middle of all the downtown sites, but if you are just going to see Paul you probably won't care

Since I don't know the area, how far away is that hotel and the venue from the main big hotels, like the 4 Seasons, Ritz Carlton?

About 3-1/2 miles. Cabs are not always easy to get after events at the UC but the Chicago Transit Authority runs event buses from there to Michigan Ave (where the Ritz is) after concerts. If you are a member of Über in another city, you can use Über in Chicago.

You'll be fine! Plus, there are some fantastic restaurants within walking distance!

I wouldn't have a clue how to use those buses. I'm in Detroit- the Motor City- and we don't have decent public transportation here. Everyone relies in their cars. Yikes.
