Oobu, in 1975 when I got my Chevy Vega for $3000, what I REALLY wanted was a Datsun 260-Z, but it was too expensive at around $6000! We would kill to have car prices be that low today!

Yeah, they were really expensive back then but oh so cool. It was really fun to drive too!

Nancy & oobu, one of my friends owned a Datsun 280ZX, I floored that car on the freeway up to 140 MPH before getting pulled over by a cop! The funny part of the story is that I knew the cop, he was one of my best friend's Dad! The cop told me: "John, why is it that I'm not surprised that it was you?" The cop let me go with a warning, I was doing it again 5 minutes later!

Speaking of Vega's and other GM cars, I used to off load them. We would get a boxcar with 30 of them hanging from 10 doors, nose down. All of the back and floormats would be piled on the dash when we got into them. We also drove brand new, with less than 10 miles on the odometer, corvettes, transams, camaros and others off the decks of railcars and down a steep ramp and park them in a big parking lot where they would later be loaded onto transport trucks for distribution.

That looks like a cool job SurSteven!

I had a roommate in college who had a 240-Z and we drove down to her home in Tarpon Springs, FL from Atlanta one weekend and she let me drive part way. Yes, very fun to drive. My current car is sort of similar. It is a 2-seater 2011 Honda CR-Z.  It sits low to the ground too. It is a hybrid, but has 3 speeds: Norrmal, Hybrid, and Sport. OMG, when you put it in Sport on the highway it can haul a$$! They donât make them anymore. ď¸ I love mine and even though the Hybrid batteries are now out of warranty, when they die, I will replace them. I only have just over 30,000 miles on the car! Mine is silver.

It was an excellent job for a young motorhead like me! We were getting paid the equivalent of $29 an hour in today's money. When you were talking about small block and big block 400s it made me try to remember all the chevy engine sizes, many of which I've owned. 235 and 260 6 cylinders V8's 265 283 305 327 348 ( learned how to drive in a 58 nomad wagon with a 348)Â 350 396 400 409 427 and 454. Did you know that Charlize Theron grew up with a motorhead dad? She recited the chevy firing order once in an interview. 18436572 I fell in love with her after that! There is also a young lady in The Voice finals named Chevelle. I have a longtime old friend who spends all of his free time with his son, buying and restoring Chevelles. Have another long time friend who buys and fixes up classic GM cars and pickups. He is a natural mechanical genius and was head diesel mechanic for a large business before retiring early and focusing his attention on restorations.

WOW, I haven't heard about a 348 motor in years! I almost forgot about that motor. My favorite small block was a 327, it had a quicker stroke cycle than a 350. 350 was not a bad motor at all. I must confess, I do know about the 70-72 Chevelles very well. I've rebuilt 327's , 350's, 396's. 400's, 427's and 454's several times. I've rebuilt them stock as well as high performance.
Its hard to believe that the very first motor that I ever rebuilt was a 351 Cleveland!
SurSteven, you and I definitely need to talk by phone someday and talk cars!

You mentioning Charlize Theron made me remember this:
She grew up on her parents' farm in Benoni, near Johannesburg. On 21 June 1991, Theron's father, an alcoholic, threatened both teenaged Charlize and her mother while drunk, physically attacking her mother. Theron's mother then shot and killed him. The shooting was legally adjudged to have been self-defence, and her mother faced no charges.
Okay, back to talking about cars. (I donât know why this print is so small! Hopefully after 30 minutes it will revert to normal!)
I have had just about every kind of Honda since 1989. Accord (when they were small - had a gorgeous blue one with a stick shift) Civic, Civic Hybrid,
CR-V, Odyssey and now a CR-Z.  Never had a bit of trouble with any of them. Just did regular maintenance.

I remember reading that Charlize Theron had a hard life in South Africa! I used to get her confused with Ashley Judd who is also a very beautiful woman.

Had never heard of the family problems. She did seem to have a deep serious air about her at times. Despite the problems, am sure she was thankful for the good things. Yes!, she is quite attractive.
Do you remember how that 348 and 409 engines had the cylinder heads that were differently shaped from the standard?
Had a '69 Buick Skylark too, very similar to this one. 350 2 barrel automatic, I kept it so fine tuned, it would snap your head back when you stepped on the gas.

I drove so many brand new cars and pick ups and straight trucks (with no boxes on them yet) that I could safely sing to 1,000's upon 1,000's of people... "BABY, YES I DROVE YOUR CAR!!" Haha Very Cool!!!

My Mom owned a 69 Buick Skylark and she loved to speed in that car. I was 10 years old, my friend and I decided to take the car out for a joyride without my Mom knowing about it and I ended up totalling the car! BOY WAS MY MOM ANGRY AT ME to put it mildly!

Taught my oldest daughter to drive in a 4 door version of this 1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88
394 cid turbo hydramatic trans (2nd gear was like 2.5, they used to use them in dragsters. I used to time it by ear precisely so that it would shift smoothly and not bog down when it did. She drives a brand new jeep now.

What I'm about to say SurSteven is the truth, everytime a car drives through a house or off a cliff, there's a very good chance that I'm usually involved!
