McCartney Concert Voice

Actually, I think Paul was at his vocal peak around '81 thru '83. Most seasoned vocalists agree that a singer doesn't really start sho' nuff SANGIN' until one reaches the age of 39/40'ish.
Disagree! Paul was 34 in 1976 and definitely at his vocal peak (and physical peak!) Nudge Nudge Wink Wink

Listen to his vocal on "Tug Of War" -- not as easy to sing as it seems, and this track showcases his full-voice range:
Amazing vocal. Absolute control. His voice is gold here. -

Amazing vocal. his voice is gold here.I don't disagree with that, just about his peak. P.S. I LOVE his hair there!

I am convinced that if Paul had continued to tour in the early '80s, we would've seen his all-time best live-vocals.
-
nope, Ivote for the 70s...even better writing. But now we are just getting our personal faves.
-
Are there any live-vocal performances of Paul in the early '80s?
-
I completely disagree, listen to the boots from the '79 tour and you can already hear a deterioration from the WOA period. His voice just isn't quite as sweet on the ballads.

'86 only i think. Almost forgot Live Aid in ' 85 when famously Paul's mic wasn't working as he sang Let It Be in front of millions.

I hear what you're saying there.

The only other thing I can think of is a buddy holly tribute concert -- or am I thinking of one of the '79 Wings gigs?

Paul did a Buddy Holly Week performance of It's So Easy at the Hammersmith Apollo in Sept '79.

This is great! Vocally, he sounds head-n'-shoulders above how he did on Wings Last Flight.

Vocally the '79 tour wasn't anywhere near as strong as '75/ '76. Paul's confidence was low with Wings after the huge triumph of the '75 '76 World tour, i think Jimmy and Joe leaving deflated him more than he let on. I loved the 1979 UK Tour, but it was my first Macca show so nothing was going to spoil it, plus i loved Back To The Egg so i really enjoyed hearing those songs live.

Not sure why, but I tend to prefer '76 much more over the '75 shows. I suppose that, by 1976, their show was fine-tuned.

The '75 shows seem less slick than the 1976 gigs. I do remember reading that critics thought the Wings Australian shows were much wilder than the US tour concerts. Having only seen the Melbourne show on YT and DVD things seemed less rigid, you even have Jimmy running around slightly demented.

Agreed.

Here is a video from the '79 tour of Yesterday...
I don't think it's as good as the '76 version. -
you must be a big Yesterday fan. I saw you asking about in in another thread.

Not really...a coincidence
