Set List critique

I had signs for Big Barn Bed & Alligator & Appreciate for soundcheck but he did none of them. I also yelled out Big Barn Bed to no avail.
We appreciate you trying, though.
-
Maybe he just likes to tease his most diehard fans.
-
I wish it were that. The truth is that we are no longer on his radar.

To sell 40,000 tickets, it has to be a Beatle show. A solo McCartney concert is an 8,000 to 12,000 seat venue event. Nothing wrong with that. But I suspect he and his management are going for the $.
-
Clearly.
-
It does not need to be a solo McCartney setlist. Just a fair representation of the last 4o years.
-
Yep.
-
For those of us among his "supplemental income" fans (the ones who made many of his solo albums go Gold/Platinum), how about throwing us a bone every now n' then?
-
He said last night something about playing new songs but when he plays the old Beatles tunes...all the cell phones come out. Damn you Apple I phones.
-
Eric Clapton could easily do a hit-marathon like Macca does; he's had almost as many hits (and FAR more hits in the '90s and beyond), but he doesn't go for the obvious. Yes, his audience will get their rocks-show experience, but you can damn well bet that they're also going to sit on their ass and listen to some music and be enlightened.

Seen EC many times through the years. Most recently just a couple of years ago here. It was a horrid, lazy show. He clearly did nit want to be on the stage. Even now you can read on many forums punters peeved at him for similar reasons. It not what he plays - it's his "flipping the bird" attitude to his audiences. His playing is very ordinary too these days. Sinatra once said something along the lines of "the minute you treat your audience with contempt - it's endsville." For Clapton it is.
-
Further to Clapton, he recently announced he's pulling the pin on touring. "can't be bothered travelling long distances... all the countries you travel to now have turned into America." He's a miserable old git.
-
I've seen him three times, but, admittedly, it's been a while. Based on many, many vids I've seen online lately, he seems like he's found his fire again, ever since his 50th anniversary tour kicked off last year. He's slimmer again, looking fantastic -- and he's solo'ing like he did in the '90s (his technical peak, in my opinion). I'd check out his stuff from the last year.

After my 14th McCartney show last night in Chicago, I have to say it is time for a major setlist (and entire show) shakeup for Paul. The show is just getting really boring I am sad to say. All My Loving, Let Me Roll It, The Long and Winding Road, Lady Madonna, Eleanor Rigby, Something, Here Today, Band on the Run, Back in the USSR, Let It Be and Hey Jude have been played to death and, sadly, need to go. It seemed last night that most people there were bored during these songs....people actually seemed to enjoy the new songs more (probably because they have not heard them played so many times.) The same jokes and stories need to go...the entire 100% prearranged show needs to go....the same lame videos for each song need to go. The only real memory of last night for me was my 9 year old jamming out to Helter Skelter (I got blisters on my fingers!) which he loves from Beatles Rock Band!

Exactly. Would people really miss "All Together Now" and "Benefit of Mr. Kite. He could do "Take It Away" (it was a top 20 hit) and maybe a song like "I Can Bet " from "New. How about doing "Friends to Go" as the tribute to Harrison instead of "Something". McCartney has stated that he felt Harrison's spirit while writing the song. IMO - BOTR album has been fairly covered for years with many songs from that record. Why not replace "Let Me Roll It" which has been done forever with a song like "What It Is" that is a 50's style rocker that would be great in concert with his band. This is just four changes that would represent his career a little bit better and the only song that might upset first time people would be removing "Something"

It's hard to believe that since the 'My Band' era, Here Today and Coming Up are the only representatives from the 80's...From the 90's, the only song to fill a set list slot is Flaming Pie (with a one off performance of Cosmically Conscious)...I believe Let'em In and (more recently) Listen to What the Man Said are the only post Band on the Run Wings songs to be regularly included in a 'My Band' era set list (with Mull of Kintyre occasionally being played in 'special' venues)...Early solo/Wings up through 1974 has been covered pretty well by this band (even a fair smattering of album cuts, despite mostly coming from Band on the Run)...wouldn't mind hearing an updated live version of Tomorrow, however (this song could temporarily fill one of several slots of 'album cut' songs that should be rotated with pretty much every leg of every tour - the fact that Let Me Roll It has been part of every set list since 2002 is pretty bizarre given the amount of solo material that hasn't seen the light of day by this current band) For me, I wouldn't necessarily want a full set list of solo album cut songs...but if he just an additional two or three to what he already does, and rotated each one of them around each new leg of every tour, it would sound so much more fresh...I remember the second leg of the Driving Rain tour where just several song changes seemed to make an immense difference in the texture of the show...to the better...The later on, I believe 2010, he surprised us by opening with Venus and Mars/Rockshow as well as adding several nice Wings numbers (nineteen hundred and eighty-five, Letting Go)...the entire rest of the show was the same as he had been doing, but yet these additions were a breath of fresh air

I think we all know he would never do a full set list of solo songs at this stage of his career but if he followed your suggestion I think it would be great. If his voice could handle it now, why not do "Beware My Love' instead of one of the songs off BOTR. Mix up the songs from "New", maybe do two different ones every other night. For example, one night do "Save Us", the next night do "I Can Bet". I still think it would be awesome to do "Soily" as the closing song of the first encore. Heck, he closed with it in 1976 - lol. In other words, keep his fans guessing a bit.
