Set List critique

Dont' hate me, I love the man, but the setlist is a bit of a snoozer. I dont know why he has these rules it seems where he wont change things up a bit. Maybe I'm in the minority but I dont like the NEW album with the exception of a couple of songs. Definitely his weakest output IMHO since Off the Ground. But I understand he needs to promote it. Here's what I'd like to see: Eight Days a Week -Doesnt sound right without John. I Saw Her Standing There would be a perfect opener Save Us -Awful, but it aint going anywhere. All My Loving -Beaten to death, but acceptable Listen to What the Man Said -ZZZZZZZ- replace with Silly Love Songs Let Me Roll It/Foxy Lady -Needs to go bye bye. How about the forgotten Cant Buy Me Love?!?!? Paperback Writer -Adios. Bring back Jet My Valentine -ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ- Anything but thos Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five -KEEP! The Long And Winding Road -ZZZZZZZZZZZZ- How about C'moon or Let em In, even. Maybe I'm Amazed -He's had trouble with this since 89. How about Hold Me Tight?? I've Just Seen a Face -Ok, but I'd prefer Hop of Deliverance We Can Work It Out-Ok Another Day -OK And I Love Her -Meh. How about Mother Natures son or Rocky Racoon Blackbird -Keep Here Today -Adios! NO MORE TRIBUTES! Put It There would be great! New -Keep Queenie Eye -Not my fave, but it aint going anywhere Lady Madonna -C ya. You Never Give ME Your $$ would be better All Together Now -Sayonara- Bring back Getting Better Lovely Rita --Fair at best Everybody Out There -Keep Eleanor Rigby -Time to dump it. Ever Present Past shoud take its spot! One After 909 -Nope. Two of US would be better Something -Sorry Georgie, but its gotta go. Replace with Follow Me Obladi Oblada -OK Band on the Run -OK Back in the U.S.S.R. -OK Let It Be -OK Live and Let Die -OK Hey Jude -duh Day Tripper. -OK Hi Hi Hi -OK -two girls on stage- Get Back -NO!! Throw a curve and stick in Lonely Road from the UNDERappreciated Driving Rain Yesterday. -OK Helter Skelter -Doesnt sound good live. Bring back Pepper Golden/Carry/The End-Cool What do you think. It would still be a VERY hit friendly show! Oh yeah, replace Mr Kite with Penny Lane.

I disagree with you on the new album. I love it and wish he would add more to the live show.
-
Is a pity that Paul don't play many hit from '80 years like "No more lonely night" "Tug of war" "Once upon a long ago" or some gem like "Beautiful night" and "Little willow" from Flaming pie album. There are also many beatles songs that he have never played live like "Another girl" "Maxell silver hammer" "Martha my dear" etc.

I agree...I'm hoping Paul adds a few more "NEW" songs to the set list by the time he hits Japan again, and the U.S. IMO, we'll see a different setlist during the Japanese leg than we saw last night in South America. Japanese audiences were treated to the "NEW" album last November, and I really doubt he will play the same setlist as he did then. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

It's a great show. Unfortunately, it's basically the same show. I agree with the person who said in another thread that seeing Paul McCartney in concert is almost like going to see a musical.

It's a new LEG! Not a new tour. Quit complaining you all know it's not going to change. Shows on a second leg hardly ever change. Plus this set was only used in six shows in Japan. C'mon really.. Be a little positive for a change really. Paul wants to play Beatles simply because the audience likes them therefore he's going to keep playing them. Plus they keep the tour reviews high. A lot of people complaining about many artists only playing solo hits and that, of course keeps their reviews in the negative category. I believe him keeping the Beatles songs in the set have sustained his position in the being a great artist. I don't know if you're following me.. I do wish people would clap for songs like LWTMS which was a huge hit..

Agreed. I'm not saying folks can't have their opinions etc but what many don't realize, and I've been trying to explain for years on here, is that it's likely that 90% of people going to these shows have NEVER seen Paul live before, or if they have may not have had the chance to see him in many years, (example my mom seeing him finally for the first time in 2011 after not seeing him since he was with The Beatles in 1964) so this set is NEW to them. Not everybody has had the chance to see Paul live as many times as some have. Every Paul show I've been to, I have always been sitting around folks that were experiencing their first Paul concert and were having the time of their lives, that's what matters!

Absolutely. Has been my experience too, with the exception of maybe 50-100 people, the majority are seeing him for the first time, and maybe a second. There are only a handful who see him multiple times. And still for every song that Paul does that is classic there were some left out that those newcomers want to hear. I suspect that even if he did change things too much the complaints would come out then also. Everyone has their own personal favorites. He just chooses, for the most part to do what he thinks are the majority favorites and some he wants to do. However, as a small bone to the fans, it can't hurt him to at least insert a song from each decade. He's pretty much ignored the past 30 years except what is 'new' at the time. I can't figure that omission out at all.

Nah, if McCartney would have been a bit more proud and confident of the rest of his career, he would have been valued by the masses as solo artist on his own instead of ex-Beatle now. Also, nobody is saying he should not play 'Hey Jude' or 'Let It Be'. Just the endless minor Beatles songs for a whole tour long instead of big solo tunes isn't necessary.

Maybe one day when you are in the biggest and most celebrated band the world has ever known, you will realise that other things you have achieved have to take a back seat because of that. Imagine watching a 'neil armstrong' interview and him just talking about the 1970s/1980s 1990s?........The folks turning up at these modern day paul mccartney concerts are getting exactly what they want and have paid big money for I really wish people on here would give it a rest and accept him for the marvel that he is. :

No need to be so defensive. Like said, no one is saying it's a sub-par show. Or even saying he shouldn't serve the masses. Or saying he should only play obscure songs. If Neil Armstrong would have been the first man on Venus in the 70's, and the first man on Mars in the 80's, it would be strange if 80% of interviews with him were concentrating on his 60's achievements.

Yes but thats only in your head....in reality or back in reality he is known and admired the world over for the music he made in the 1960's. Sure he has made some fine music since then and sure he has been a popular artist in his own right. But 90% of the people that go to see him are wanting to hear 90% beatles songs.....sorry that upsets you but its a FACT

Like mentioned in the other thread, Paul could just concentrate on the songs he's done in the last 10 years or s0 and still make the show interesting and current. Once in while bring in songs like Here, There and Everywhere, Too many people, Good Day Sunshine, Can't buy me Love, Venus and Mars etc.. and if you don't get to hear for example All my Loving or Paperback Writer then the alternative will be one everyone knows and can sing along too!
