There ya go. The reviewer said, "Thankfully no 'Silly Love Songs' or 'Ebony and Ivory.'" My sister was at this show and said it was great. She also said she spoke to a LOT of people around her and EVERYONE was seeing Paul for the first time.

I'll agree that I am thankful he didn't play Ebony and Ivory, but that line was a cheap shot. Why would he play it live without Stevie? And Silly Love Songs would bring the house down.
-
Side note: Was it just me or did the big-screen video board hardly ever show Brian Ray? Even my wife, who isn't nearly as big of a fan as me, noticed it and said something to me afterwards.

The review is from a 60 something guy who tries to come across as a hipster. He once said that U2 was a better band than the Beatles. Considering that - I thought it was a pretty positive review. I don't think I've met or heard from anybody that doesn't think it was a great show.

And here is my story on taking my 7-year-old boys to the Target Field show. I work for a newspaper in South Dakota and wrote about the experience today. This was my eighth show, including one in 2005 when we sat in the front row before Paul signed our Union Jack flag. But nothing can top seeing my boys get into the concert as much as they did. I hope you enjoy it. http://www.argusleader.com/story/news/2014/08/04/life-mccartney-wows-youngest-fans-fireworks/13561439/

Yep and Hamish did a nice job on the vocal.
-
Say what you will about "E&I," but that bass-line is sho' 'nuff some funky stuff.

Right. Was that played during the whole tour? I thought it was played for a portion and was dropped because of audience reception. What I meant is that he is never going to play that song again without Stevie. Didn't he do a one-off of it at a recent show in Los Angeles?

Yep and he played it during sound check with Abe at one point. I wasn't inside but was listening outside the stadium.

It was done at the 1989 shows, the January 1990 UK shows and I think also the early 1990 US arena shows. I think it was dropped for all of the '90 US stadium gigs. At one of the 1989 LA shows, Stevie was in attendance and did appear on stage to do the song with Paul. After Paul had already performed it in its regular setlist slot.

I saw Paul's 1990 show in L.A., and he did E&I with Hamish taking Stevie's part. The audience liked it just fine. I never get why people hate it so much. It's a nice little song, and it was a massive hit.

I believe the soundcheck performances you're talking about was at a point leading into his appearance at the White House, where he performed it with Stevie Wonder...From what I can tell, the song was dropped from any further soundcheck performances there after As far as the 1989/90 inclusion of Ebony and Ivory, it was in the set list for the entire 1989 leg of that tour...and it was there when I saw Paul in Worcester, MA in Feb of 1990...but it was long gone by the time he came back to Massachusetts (Foxboro, during the summer of 1990) And when Stevie Wonder joined Paul on stage in LA during that 1989 gig, it was actually the second time the song was performed that evening (he had earlier played it in it's original place in the set list)
-
I was also at the LA show when Stevie Wonder got on stage to sing E&I with Paul and it was the second time he performed it that night. Hamish did a great job on that song, and the crowd loved it.

No this was more recent than that. I just can't remember what city. It was either Detroit or DC.

People in general seem to like "Ebony & Ivory" much more than the hardcore fans do. Back in the late-'90s, I had a part-time job at a digital imaging company, and we all played our own CDs. I brought in Tripping The Live Fantastic one day, and practically everyone in the room sang along when "E&I" came on. I was surprised.
