Bonnaroo Festival, Manchester TN, 14th June 2013 - ARCHIVE

OK, friends...confession time: Paul sounded great! Unfortunately, Rod and I made the mistake of arriving way too early...the heat, combined with walking over 20 miles, forced us to leave the concert early. We were absolutely exhausted. I got terribly sunburned, and I developed a rash...awful. Also, Rod and I were seemingly the only people there NOT on some sort of drug. I will never do Bonnaroo again (sober.) We left after "Another Day." So, other than "Hi Hi Hi," I got to see the songs I wanted to see most. I am DEFINITELY going to try and see Paul during the fall leg of the tour, when the new album is released...somewhere, hopefully.

The funniest part was in the later half of the show. He addressed the crowd saying "That's some good weed I smell out there." And the place went s**t.
LOL! Damn I wish I was there!
After hours of breathing the second-hand smoke, I am now convinced that I definitely got what they call a "contact high." I had very weird dreams last night, and my whole body felt...weird...when I finally retired to bed.

I told you to come see him in Brazil, mate. Glad you got to enjoy a good bunch of songs at least!

Sorry about all you went through, but glad you got to see Paul! Your experience is one of the big reasons why I decided to travel to see Paul this summer even though he's coming to where I live, I just can't do music festivals like that.

For those wondering, he does the "let me take this all in" bit ,checking for signs, after "All My Loving."
He told the Hendrix/Clapton story better than ever last night, but it still seemed to be lost on half the audience.

title of article... Paul McCartney carries the weight at Bonnaroo "McCartney is one of the world's most recognizable musicians and showed why as he led a massive 2½-hour sing-a-long of three dozen songs that included two encores Friday night."

Even Rolling Stone said nice things!!!
Paul McCartney may have played 24 Beatles classics and seven Wings gems in a whopping, two-and-a-half-hour set at Bonnaroo last night in Manchester, Tennessee, but that doesn't make him an oldies act. Seeing the 70-year-old Beatle, whose voice has hardly aged a day since Please Please Me, play universally loved, time-transcending staples like "Let It Be," "Eight Days a Week" and "Yesterday" ? selections from inarguably the most influential song book in pop music history ? in 2013 (and all in their original keys!) is like being able to go see Abraham Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address in person. It's a privilege for anyone born in the last half century to hear this music performed live, in the moment, and with such grace, by the man who composed them. That wasn't lost on the 80,000-or-so elated festivalgoers that congregated for Macca's extraordinary performance on the What Stage. And that made this the single greatest Bonnaroo headlining performance in the festival's 12-year history, as it was moment after awesome moment of fever-pitched collective transcendence. "Paperback Writer," "Maybe I'm Amazed," "Band on the Run," "Blackbird," "Something" (played in tribute to George Harrison), "Eleanor Rigby," "We Can Work It Out," "Hey Jude" ? to have not gotten swept up in and invigorated by the life-affirming celebration would be an outright rejection of joy. When it came to the Bonnaroo crowd, playful, more-whimsical set-list selections like "Your Mother Should Know," "Lady Madonna," "All Together Now" and "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" ? which felt like an 80,000-strong saloon sing-along ? matched the festival's quirky aesthetic, thus getting the rowdiest reactions of the set. Though an amped-up "Day Tripper" and ever savage "Helter Skelter" were more than enough to satisfy hard rock fans, a fall-of-Saigon-worthy fireworks display onstage and overhead that deafened and dazzled the crowd will inevitably be one of the most raved-about moments in the set.

I have a strong feeling that there's going to be a DVD of this show.

My hunches are always wrong; I know. In this case, that's fine with me, because I think his next DVD needs to include songs from the new album -- and all those fab Wings/solo rarities from the past two tours.

I'd love a bit of a compilation DVD, there has been so much great stuff played over the last few years but unfortunately not in the same show. It would seem a real shame to have no document of Venus & Mars, Letting Go, Come and Get It, The Night Before, The Word, Bluebird, Ram On etc etc

I'd be shocked if a DVD came out from this show, i strongly believe one from the tour but Festival shows are much more complicated to produce as a DVD

Tried and failed. Epic fail. We thought about driving back tonight to catch Billy Idol and, possibly, James McCartney this afternoon...but I can barely walk right now.
