My Visit To Ringo's Child hood Home In Liverpool
-
@wandy You never said if you meant Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. I’ve been to one of their museums in Florida.
-
@njr Yes it was Ripleys. We have or had, a Ripleys in London, but I'm not sure it's still there. There was another one in Blackpool, north of England, I have visited that one many years ago. Found it interesting. I very rarely visit any attractions in London, WAY too expensive in my opinion.

I’ve probably seen many more London attractions than you (and more than once since I came with different people each time):
The Tower Of London, Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussaud’s, The Royal Mews, Albert Hall tour inside, Kensington Palace, The London Eye, The Old Operating Theatre & Herb Garret, Westminster Abbey (also did special evening tour where you get to see areas where daytime tours don’t), The National Gallery, The Tate Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, Household Cavalry Museum, Imperial War Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral and The Vault next to The Hard Rock Cafe which is underneath the gift shop (the building used to be a bank) All kinds of Rock ‘N’ Roll memorabilia in there - guitars, John’s Army shirt, handwritten lyrics to Beatles songs, you name it!
I’ve visited London in 1980, 1993, 2006, 2011, 2016 & 2022.
P.S. I also visited Liverpool in 1993, 2006, 2011, 2016 & 2022. The last 3 times were during Beatleweek in August. -
@njr Yup! You definitely been to more places than me, but I have made about 20 movies/ documentaries about London's history ( including The London Beatles Walk which Ladyleslie has right now) So you must like London a LOT, considering how many times you've come over. I LOVE London, and it's history, hence the reason why I've made so many movies about it, BUT it's outrageously expensive.

The plane fares have increased, but I’ve used my Delta Sky Miles the past 3 times to fly almost free (just pay about $300 for taxes, surcharges) AND, the pound in 2016 was $1.65 and in 2022 was only about $1.25. (back in 1980 it was nearly $2.50!!) So that makes it much less expensive for Americans to visit.
I do LOVE London and have visited other parts of the country in 1980, 1993 and 2006 such as Stratford-Upon-Avon, Chester, York. Have also been to Llangollen, Wales once and Edinburgh, Scotland 3 times.
P.S. Also visited Liverpool in 1993, 2006, 2011, 2016 & 2022. The last 3 times were during Beatleweek in August. -
@njr When I went to Stratford Upon Avon I met more Americans than English ppl, lol. Last time I went to Liverpool was 2008. I visited the Casbah Coffee club in Haymans Green, still owned by the "Best" family. I was shown round by Rory Best. It's still the best £10 I have ever spent. Well worth the money.

I have known Roag Best since 2011 when he showed us around the Casbah Club and we became friends on FB. Met up with him again in 2014 in Riviera Maya, Mexico along with Pete & the band at The Hard Rock Hotel for a 5-day all-inclusive Beatles convention. He remembered me from before! Saw him again at the Casbah in 2016. He was so busy in 2022 we never got to meet up, but we messaged on FB and my friend and I visited his Beatles museum on Mathew St.
P.S. Met Rory too in 2011. -
Sorry we’re getting off topic, but here is our tour guide, Jackie Spencer, with Rory Best in 2011 at the Casbah Club: (isn’t that John Lennon on his t-shirt?!)
-
@njr I saw the Pete Best band in Liverpool, I would say around 30 yrs ago I enjoyed the show, but I still think Ringo was and is, still the best drummer for the Beatles. Pete might be "Best", but Ringo is a Star(r)
-
Roag giving us a tour in 2011:
-
@njr Sure looks like Dr Winston O'boogie to me

I agree completely. I know exactly why they chose Ringo. I spent 3 hours with Pete, Roag, Roag Jr. and the band one night in Mexico in 2014 and I don’t think Pete said 3 words! Even Roag Jr. talked to me. Talked mostly with Roag - we both have twins. He has identical girls and I have a boy & a girl. Pete was real nice though and I got a great pic hugging him and earlier he had signed one of his used drumsticks for me. At that same convention was also Laurence Juber and Denny Seiwell.
P.S. There is also a Roag III! Roag just posted a pic of the 3 of them on his FB page. (Roag Jr. is about 28 years old and Roag III looks to be about 3 or 4) Here’s the photo: -
@wandy Scroll back. You may have missed my pics of Roag in 2011.

@njr I have never met Roag Best ( did you know his father was Neil Aspinal? He and Mona had an affair ) But when I visited the Casbah in 2008, Rory allowed me to film ( video) the tour. A week or so later I put my Casbah film on Youtube. A few weeks after that I got a polite email from Roag asking me to take it down, apparently Rory had made a mistake in allowing me to film in the Casbah. His email was so polite, I couldn't refuse him. I removed my film from Youtube, but I still have it on dvd. I didn't care how polite he was, I wasn't going to bin my dvd.
-
@njr I saw them. I replied by mentioning an email Roag sent to me.

Of course I know Neil Aspinall was his dad! There probably isn’t anything you could tell me that is Beatles-related that I don’t know!
Well, I can understand him not wanting your video on YouTube. They want paying customers to see it in person. And of course, no need to throw away your DVD! I just wish Leslie and I had all-region DVD players! Can’t play Region 2 DVDs here. ️ -
@wandy Did you see the 3 Roags pic? So cute!

@njr Nice photo. Apparently ( but it's probably urban legend because I have never heard the recording) there is a recording of a journalist asking John Lennon why the Beatles fired Pete, as Pete was technically a better drummer than Ringo. John is supposed to have replied, "Pete might be a better drummer, but Ringo is a better "Beatle" ( unquote) If John did say this then I think it's because of Ringo's whacky like personality. Ringo fitted right in from the get go, straight out of the racing blocks. WHOOSH!! I notice in the pictures of when Pete was in the Beatles, Pete was hardly smiling at all. He just didn't look the part. I told as much to Rory, but he disagreed with me. No surprise there, they are brothers. And let's be honest, probably Ringo's main contribution to the drumming he did on the Beatles recordings is those tricky "drum fills". Those drum fills are UNIQUE to Ringo. Unique like his own fingerprints. Never in a million years would Pete Best produce drum fills like that. Never.

I do believe I’ve heard that actual interview where John says Ringo was a better Beatle. I’m going to research it. John could have said “Pete might have been a better drummer, but Ringo was a better Beatle.” (in other words, he was speaking in past tense)
-
@wandy P.S. I agree with you about what you said about Pete vs. Ringo drumming.
