Paul and his band put on an incredible show last night in St. Louis. He played for two and a half hours and the only break he took was for just a minute or two between encores. In his first full concert since May, he was in great voice and exhibited boundless energy. The set list was similar to the one he's been using the past year. Magical Mystery Tour replaced Hello Goodbye as the first song. My Valentine replaced Come and Get It. And I Love Her replaced I Will. Encore #1 featured Lady Madonna, Birthday, Day Tripper and Get Back. Encore #2 featured Yesterday, Helter Skelter and the Abbey Road medley. Here are a few highlights from the show: * He removed his collarless jacket a few songs in and proclaimed this to be "my one wardrobe change of the evening". He later said that switching instruments so often was "just us showing off". * He playfully asked the crowd if we wanted to be called "St. Looie or St. Lewis". We voiced our preference for the latter. * Lead guitar player Rusty muffed part of the solo on And I Love Her, so Paul made him do just that part again! * Paul told a story about the audience members holding signs. He joked that he shouldn't notice the signs because he gets distracted and might forget lyrics or chords. But he also admitted he sees the signs anyway! * Drummer Abe did some entertaining dance moves (including his own version of the Macarena!) during Dance Tonight. * Among the biggest cheers of the night came when he mentioned George (the ukelele story preceeding Something) and John. * The pyrotechnics during Live and Let Die wowed the crowd. * Scary moment during The End. When Paul got up from the piano and ran around to get his guitar for the solo with Rusty and Brian, he fell down. He was sprawled out on his stomach for just a couple of seconds, got right back up, put on his guitar, and finished the song without missing a beat! Before saying goodnight, Paul cracked a smile as he told us "the fall was intentional". PAUL - thanks for coming back to St. Louis and for giving us an evening we'll never forget! RE: How many songs has Paul written?
I knew this question would be tough, but I didn't realize just how tough! Does ASCAP count songs with multiple versions (No More Lonely Nights, for example) as one entry since the lyrics are the same? What about the various remixes? (Yes, I still have many of the 12" vinyl extended versions.) To answer an earlier post....Yes, I would count snippets like Lovely Linda just as I would count other "unfinished" songs like from Side 2 of Abbey Road. We'd also have to count all the unreleased songs that eventually saw the light of day on reissues, like the McCartney II outtakes. But figure that Paul has been writing for over 50 years, and he used to crank them out with John at a furious pace. An average of just one song per month for 50 years would total 600, so I think 800-1000 is probably a good conservative estimate. Alan in St. Louis, USA

How many songs has Paul written?
Hello from St. Louis in the USA! I've wondered for a long time: How prolific is Sir Paul? How many songs has he written? Must be over 1,000! I know there are 200+ Lennon-McCartney songs. Then add in the ones with Linda, Michael Jackson, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, etc. and all the songs he wrote without a partner. Fine with me if you want to count the well-known Unreleased songs as well, and don't forget to include the Fireman and Oratorio ones! Has anyone done this research? Thanks, Alan

RE: Claim to Fame
Thanks for the warm welcome, Triplet. I should have joined long ago. I've been a fan and collector for many years. I know I was lucky to get tickets to the STL show. Many friends tried at the very minute the sale "started", but the show was already sold out due to the presale. I play guitar and some bass in a cover band, and I sing lead on Back in the USSR. So if Paul needs any help, he can count on me!

My proud claims to Paul fame: 1. Born on the day the Beatles first appeared on Ed Sullivan 2. Daughter shares birthday with Paul (but he still hasn't sent a card! j/k) 3. Happy to have my tickets for the St. Louis show! Alan
