With four albums worth of material to choose from,Paul hasn't got any reason to perform any songs pre-2000.
You have to understand that he was a Beatle and can never totally run away from that fact in concert. I totally agree that he should play more of his recent songs because they are excellent. IMO - Paul should can songs like "C Moon", "Jet", BOTR", "Live and Let Die", "Yesterday", "Let It Be", "Hey Jude" and "Long and Winding Road" because he has played them to death. Throw in 2-3 songs each from MAF and CHAOS and why not pick out a couple of Wings songs he has never done live (loved that he did something different like "Mrs. Vanderbilt" for special show). He has several top 10 hits from Wings he never did live so it is not like these songs would be obscure. This would still leave the audience with plenty of Beatle hits. Finally, it would really be awesome if he did a "Fireman" song !!!
I was at Coachella. It was a great show. He did do Jet, opened with it, BOTR, Live and Let Die (the best version I have ever seen), Yesterday (with Jet, BOTR, Live and Let Die, Yesterday not being done at Amoeba), Hey Jude (a massive sing-along highly appreciated by the large crowd), and the Long and Winding Road which was dedicated to Linda. He also did Highway and Sing the Changes from Electric Arguments. Included were Dance Tonight (sorry but Amoeba was better IMHO) and Only Mama Knows. Mrs. Vanderbilt was great as was A Day in the Life/Give Peace a Chance even though he screwed up the lyrics, but even he laughed at that. He did do some Beatles rarities like Birthday and Paperback Writer which he hasn't done since the 93 tour. C'mon guys, what the hell do you want? You come up with songs in his over 300 song repertoire that people will like. Of course I would love to see other songs included, which he does do. I kind of wished he had done Inspite of all the Danger again but how many people would want to hear/see that song done again? You can't please everyone. You have that choice to buy the ticket bitching and moaning about how he didn't mix it up to your satisfaction or not go at all, leaving the ticket for people who would better appreciate the show.
I just think certain people would like to hear more of his total career in concert and I think that is very normal and not bitching. I understand he can't please everyone but don't you think most fans would enjoy a little more variety. If you just want Beatle songs wouldn't you love to hear him throw in "Oh Darling" or "Rocky Racoon"? Instead of the same songs from BOTR, how about doing "Helen Wheels" or "1985" which were hits. MAF was his last solo record, why not do 3-4 songs from it. Finally, you would think from a artistic point he would enjoy doing more different songs. I know if I was him I would be so sick of doing certain Beatle songs. Yes, he wants to please fans who have never seen him but he has to remember there are quite a few fans at these concerts that have been fortunate to see him several times.
But he has done stuff off of MAF and has done Helen Wheels. When I saw him in 2007 he did Dance Tonight, That Was Me, House of Wax (which was incredible), Nod Your Head, and Only Mama Knows. You just gotta catch him at the right time. No matter what he does, people will criticize him because he didn't do enough of whatever or didn't do their favorite song.
