I've always thought that 'Take It Away' would be a good sub for 'Jet' in a setlist. It's got a similar tempo, the horn section thing going on and the lyrics allude to a concert ie: "Wanna hear you play till the lights go down" etc etc. I think it would be a fun song to throw into the mix.

Maybe there are more people than just he hardcore fans, and maybe they wanna hear the hits. Just a guess

True. But there are lots more hits to choose from which he hasn't done before. Personally I'm waiting for him to open his shows with "Loup (1st Indian On The Moon)" though

I see both sides of this argument, and I have mixed feelings... Of course, anyone paying to see Paul should rightly expect to hear the hits, including myself. I'd miss Hey Jude if he didn't play it. I have and will continue to pay to see him regardless of what he plays. However, when the years roll on and the same songs (with the exception of a few here and there) are played over and over and others are ignored, it does become a bit dull. Paul's been playing Something on the ukelalee since 2002. I love it... I'll always love it... but given the opportunity, I'd choose something new. I adore Paul... I'll go anywhere to see him, but I gotta admit, I'm not that heartbroken over missing this trip to Liverpool. Ok... stone me if you must.
I tend to agree with this. I must say I was a little bit disappointed when I saw the setlist from last nights show, especially after the buzz I'd heard in the build up about there being a lot of "surprises" in store. I'm not criticising anyone for going the show and enjoying it at all (I would have enjoyed it too if I'd have been there) but I think there should be room on this board for a little discussion without being shouted down. I'm a Paul fan and will nearly always defend him but I do think his live shows are now getting a little bit "Vegas". We all have DVDs and live albums with multiple versions of 'Band On The Run' and 'Back In The USSR' now, great songs though they are to me they are just starting to outstay their welcome. He could easily do a 2 and a half hour show of really great songs that he has never done before because his back catalogue is that vast. I know he will always do 'Hey Jude' and "Yesterday' etc etc but there are other big hits that he hasn't done for years. Would the majority of the casual concert going fans really be disappointed if he did "Listen To What The Man Said" instead of "Band On The Run" for instance? And all of the hardcore Paul fans would LOVE it! Or "Silly Love Songs" instead of "C Moon"? So much scope for some fresh material. My dream would be for Paul to do a run of shows at smaller theatres and really pull out some rarities and make it up the setlist as he goes along. That would be cool. But it seems in these big shows he like to play it a bit safe and stay with the tried and trusted stuff. I'm not criticising last nights show or those that went and had fun at all I'm sure it was a blast - but I'm not sure I'd be all that excited about another tour with a similar setlist. I expect I'll get flamed here now.....like a flaming pie!
