Well, I've been working on this one a while but, it was the first time I had to take the lead on an issue. They weren't going to be able to vote on this till September. I think now they will go ahead and stop this business from happening because the guy wanting to pave over all the green areas for PARKING in an old residential neighborhood can't do it! The fight to stop his greediness isn't over but, it's a lot further from where it was last night. Imagine someone actually coming into a town from elsewhere to buy up every house he can for rooming houses then shoving families out and paving over half the neighborhood so his new tenants can park cars! This tiny area has more heritage and historical homes than almost any area of North America. We tried talking directly to the guy but, he just blew us off. Not anymore! There's still lots more work to do but, THANK YOU! I really thought I might let people down being in charge of this. The pressure was terrible but, it went REALLY WELL. *sings* "Get Up Stand UP" LMAOOO!

RE: Post Anything You Want Thread!
I am SO freakin PROUD OF MYSELF tonight I could BUST!! I kicked some serious BUTT at the city council meeting tonight. It went over four hours but, when I got done speaking * and I WAS shaking in my boots at the very thought* I had every council member on my side at the end. They were all saying I was articulate and drove my points home and the by law officers were saying that they were going to start firing off letters. They gathered round the little group I got to attend after the meeting and really backed us up. OH and our item was only "tacked on" at the very end of the agenda tonight as an afterthought!! We weren't going to be allowed to speak they were just going to add it on and let us "know" when they would vote on it. BUT they decided since we waited so long to let us talk. I went up to that podium and poured my heart out as calmly as I could. THEN all the other people I got to attend spoke........the ones who all elected me to speak and said the weren't going to!! But we did it!! The by law will be changed by September but, more importantly. When I got HOME if all this wasn't enough, the CHAIR Of city council and my own councilman were parked outside my house waiting for me to inspect this issue personally!! This is after a four and a half hour meeting at midnight! They went round the street with me, and really CARED. I cannot believe they actually came right over here after this ages long meeting based on what I'd told them and you know what??? We are going to be able to stop a slum lord from taking over one of the most historic neighborhoods in North America because of this! One councilman even said "You have made me think of Joni Mitchell "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" I about died because I have always loved Joni and I was so scared to do this, especially speak in front of all these stuffy councilman.....so when he came out with that Joni line, I felt so blessed! LOL! I'm on cloud nine. I used to be SO SHY and I still am but, tonight I did something I was scared of and I did a good job.

RE: What's up with the Bees?
As someone who has kept a few colonies of bees and whose first job was for an apiary I can confirm how serious this issue is! If there are no bees to help pollinate crops the food supply will be seriously affected! We used to have farmers pay US to put bees near their fields of corn or soy beans or whatever just because it increased production per acre so much. All crops must be pollinated to produce and without honey bees we could face famine of a kind we can't really imagine in North America. There have been other threats in the past to honey bees, diseases and such but, this is the MOST SERIOUS one I've ever seen. Let's hope they find a way to deal with this more effectively than they have been able to so far. This issue needs to be more high profile than it is right now so thanks to the OP for putting this on here!
