I saw Wings Over America in Denver, Colorado on 7 June 1976 at McNichols Arena. Ticket was $9.50. I was 12 years old and we were all amazed at how expensive the tickets were! Back then concert tickets were about $6. [snip]
RM - you're my age (or I'm yours! ) and one of biggest regrets in this pretty fortunate life I've had was not seeing Wings when they came through Chicago the week before you saw them. Too young to go by myself, parents weren't going to take me and none of friends were into Paul (or even the Beatles for that matter)! Do you mind my asking who you went with? (Older) friends or siblings? Going to *any* concerts at that age was a very big deal, nevermind seeing one of the biggest bands on the planet! I still remember the full page ads in the paper and just being sick - yet also excited! - about the whole thing. I love hearing that others my age made it to those shows because, personally speaking, those years were when my Wings-mania was at its peak. Thanks for sharing your story!

Great show, but Paul's gotta lose that DJ before the show. Longest 50 minutes of my life. 50 minutes I'll never get back. 50 minutes X 9 shows. Practically a lifetime it seems.
Some of us love that DJ music You always have the option of arriving 50 min later per show
Right on - it's one of the best parts of the show and perfectly sets the table for what's to come. Long live the Macca mashup!!

Do you know if trunk shirts run true to size or should you order one size up?
Sorry, oobu - just now seeing this. Tricky question only in that everyone's interpretation of "true to size" is a little different...! I would personally say that Trunk shirts are a bit "fitted" (i.e., aren't just hanging off your frame like most tees) so think they run true to size *but* if one wants a little more wiggle room so to speak, I'd order a size up. I just found their sizing chart if that helps... http://www.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Store.woa/wa/helpsizing Boy I'm getting old - all this stuff with "classic" sizes versus "contemporary" sizes: I run into the same nonsense when buying jeans these days. I just want the same Levis I've bought for years - please don't make me think about "rise" and "cut" and whatever else! Oh for days where your biggest descision was button or zip fly!
Not to wade into this debate but I have to agree with seventieslord: it was shocking to me few people at both Brooklyn shows knew Paul's post-Beatle work aside from Band on the Run and Live and Let Die. Crowd was noticeably more silent during anything post-1970: it was a "top-40" Beatles crowd first and foremost with the Macca Maniacs in second. (I put the "top 40" in there because Your Mother Should Know drew tons of blankfaced stares from people around me!) Meanwhile, all I could think about was the fact that we only heard two post-Wings songs - Here Today and My Valentine - with a THIRTY YEAR gap spanning the two. Most in the crowd would be certainly none the wiser of that fact, nor would care frankly. It would be a fantastic experiment - certainly one we forumites would love! - if he did a week-long residency at a few venues promising only to play his post-Beatle work. Sure he'd get some curiousity-seekers and all the die-hards but he'd be at a push to fill some of the smaller places he's playing this time out just relying on those folks. I'm with you Left Hand Man re the quality of the material and the excitement it would cause for us fanatics but that's not going to fill arenas/stadia. I would love to be wrong but at the end of the day, Paul and his people aren't going to let us find out!
An exhausting few weeks coming up (unlike the one just passed with two McCartney shows! 6/17: La hija de Rappaccini - Gotham Chamber Opera company 6/19: The B-52s and The Go-Gos 6/21: The Rolling Stones 6/25: Steve Martin and Edie Brickell 7/2: Lynne Jordan - Tribute to Nina Simone 7/11: Furthur 7/27: Robert Plant 8/4: Beck 8/21: fDeluxe (funk magic from the group formerly known as The Family)

Wow, some fantastic gear in the new store. Only minor gripe would be that I wish some of the women's designs were also available in men's sizes (Back to the Egg and London Town designs in particular).
Hear, hear - I would've bought that Back to the Egg shirt in a second but despise women's cut shirts (even though I myself am a lady!). Not all of us are 5'9" and 110 lbs so skinny-cut shirts with the sleeveholes at the armpit are *not* my idea of fashion. I always buy men's small or XS. Please consider issuing more of these in men's sizes!! I did, however, order up the Speed of Sound/Wings logo tee though so am very happy! Fwiw, Trunk brand t-shirts are pretty expensive as a general rule but they're great quality and comfy as heck. I have a John & Yoko "Sometime in New York City" shirt that I absolutely adore and wear all the time. $12 shipping is a bit excessive though, no?! Package won't weigh more than 1 lb....!

I've only done that once for the Up and Coming Tour. I saw in Toronto, and then took the family to see him in Montreal. But the Montreal date was also my birthday. It was a great day for me.
Paul will never and I mean , never play a gig on my birthday!! 'Cause..he never works on his birthday..
I was fortunate enough to see him on *my* birthday two years ago out at Yankee Stadium here in NY...not my best time seeing him but it was special nonetheless! The premier website membership included a poster from that show...from the angle at which the pic was taken, I know I'm in somewhere! I'll keep looking...
Do/did the Brits actually call that hairstyle a "shag" as well though? I ask for the most obvious of reasons! Seriously though - I personally would say it's a bit of both. Shag imo generically refers to a layered haircut (which he certainly had) but that lovely bit of hair than hangs past his neckline legitimately makes it a mullet in my book. The problem is that mullet has become a derogatory term for many people and is used to refer to most extreme "short side, long tail, greaser" look. Long live the *proper* Macca mullet!!
I went to both Barclays Center concerts - Saturday in a $350 seat and Monday in a cheaper nosebleed one - primarily because I live a 10-minute subway ride from the arena. No travel/hotel money involved, nor a time/inconvenience factor: if he'd played MSG this time - nevermind one of the ballparks or stadia - there's very little chance I would've gone both nights. I'd no desire to travel anywhere else in the U.S. to see him this tour - I'd certainly consider going abroad again to do so but with trans-Atlantic flights now in the $800-900 range, I'd really have to "feel it" to invest that much. I give full props to the folks who do one VIP package, nevermind several, per tour! I would sure love to do one sometime but I just go to too many shows - I've got three next week! - as well as all kinds of other things going on to have the $$ to spare. That said, if he was at the BC again tomorrow, I'd probably be there....
Beatlemaniac:
Love2travel, Ticketmaster still has tix available. But they're the ones for 304.50 and with the fees it comes to 355.
Tickets now available in section 16 (behind the soundboard) at $229....!

Just back from seeing Rod Stewart, brilliant gig a proper party his voice in fine fettle crowd singing along nicely a great night all round. So over to you now Elvis!
Does Elvis have something new out - think I read he's doing (has done?) an album with The Roots? Enjoy! It's been a while since I've seen him but he puts on a great show.
Simply WOW last night - can't even begin to express the elation: you all know how it feels anyway! Think this comes in right behind '89 for me - just fantastic all around. Best bits - finally hearing Another Day live (my all-time favorite of his - yes it was slowed down but gorgeous afaic), Paul's clear enthusiasm in being back in front of his "hometown crowd", and - sorry but - watching him hike up his pants all night long....get that man some suspenders! Seriously - he was simply brilliant. Roll on Monday! Some photos - hope you don't mind: [[img]http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b586/hollydays64/McCartney June 8 2013/McCartney_130608_12_zps92b5a22c.jpg[/img">](http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/hollydays64/media/McCartney June 8 2013/McCartney_130608_07_zpsb3ef57ac.jpg.html]<img src=) [[img]http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b586/hollydays64/McCartney June 8 2013/McCartney_130608_31_zps66e1d8cc.jpg[/img">](http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/hollydays64/media/McCartney June 8 2013/McCartney_130608_23_zpseefc0717.jpg.html]<img src=)<---pants hike! 'Beautiful Boy', no question about it. We all know how much he loves that song, and even suggested he might do a cover version one day. Sean Lennon is on stage, will be a huge emotional moment.
I know he loves the song but think it could be a bit iffy for him to perform...it's not really the easiest of songs for *anybody* to perform *well*. John brought something very special to that song and wrote it such that it was particularly well-suited his to his range and timbre. It's very similar to "Julia" in that - and I've never heard anyone cover that song well either. And to be honest, I think Sean being on stage would make it less likely that someone else will do it (because it would be so emotional?), than more likely. (For that reason, perhaps Sean himself will performing it?)

Also don't be surprised about the possibility of McCartney participating in the Meltdown Festival closer on 23 June 2013 in London, which celebrates Lennon's solo record 'Double Fantasy' with "very special guests". It all aligns up too suspiciously well.
I'd be tremendously surprised if Paul takes part in Meltdown! I'll certainly keep my fingers crossed for anyone attending that show (and boy what a lineup Yoko put together for that entire festival) but I don't see it. Again, hoping I'm wrong! Unless it's already been discussed somewhere else, just out of curiosity what song(s) from that album would you hear him doing? As I'm going through it in my head, I could hear him doing quite a good version of Cleanup Time or possibly I'm Losing You...hmm!

Hopefully soon they'll say: "We've had enough talentless people on stage, let's get some talented musicians!" (Cue: P. McCartney, D. Grohl, R. Daltrey, E. Clapton, ETC)
They had Dave Grohl on stage with them a couple of weeks ago....
/sigh is there anyone Grohl wont go on stage with? (apart from me that is and i suspect if i asked he would, god i find him tiresome, there ive said it)
Haha - I like Dave but it's true! But to be fair, he's living the R'n'R dream so when your idols ask you if you want to rehearse/do a number on stage with them, you're hardly going to say no! As well as he was absolutely smoking - did a rousing version of "B***h" with Mick & Co. and turned back the clock about 30 years!

Maybe Mick and Co. said "We have enough old guys up here, let's get some young people on stage!"
Well that is certainly part of it - "Hey, we'll give you someone without wrinkles you can count for a few minutes!" I don't think it's any accident that Paul has youngish guys around him - definitely important to keep the WQ (wrinkle quotient) down as sadly people do become way too obsessed with it!
WixRocks!:
Springsteen probably matches their level of popularity on the touring field, you're right. But while I love Fogerty and Waits...they aren't exactly the *top dollar ticket* anymore.
Fogerty perhaps not so much ... Tom Waits, who rarely tours (mainly because he can't be bothered and doesn't have to), most absolutely is. Matter of fact, precisely because he so rarely appears on stage, he could easily charge $500 a ticket and most people - myself included - wouldn't blink in paying it. (Thankfully I have already seen him so I won't need to put that to the test!)
WixRocks!:
Yeah, I don't see Paul McCartney guesting with the stones. I know they've had a lot of "special appearances" but none of them have been by artists of the same era or a higher touring caliber than they are. It's mostly popular newer artists...
\ Springsteen in December in Newark? John Fogerty and **TOM WAITS** from this leg of the tour?! Yes, they've had "the flavor of the month" join them on some shows this time out but on others, it's been some old "high calibre folks" indeed. Paul's friends with the Stones so it's not out of the realm of possibility. Just don't see it though with their respective tour schedules - which is unfortunate, because it would be a blast. Could easily see Macca ripping quite nicely on "Respectable" myself!
