have about 6 pages left of the ghost map by steven johnson. wow. steven johnson is gifted, is all i can say. he basically looks at where we are today and ties it to the cholera epidemic in london in the 1850's - relating to the work at that time of two men. if you want an intriguing read, go for it. can't say it is easy - and facinating for sure.

Agreed. Separation of church & state is quite explicit. The tricky thing is if you're a voter that wants to cast a vote for a candidate that reflects your values, you want to know that.
The problem is regardless of whether it's religious values or whatever, people too often apply selective reasoning when selecting a candidate. For example, I have an interest in saving our fish stocks off the NE coast of america. Kerry was very much involved in that fight. Should I vote for him simply based on that when in fact his platform may have no other means of improving my quality of life? And I'm not saying whether he does or doesn't offer anything else - I'm just offering a hypothetical situaton.
yup, rich, it is a dilemma that just boosts the complexity another 10000x.

As jaipur said, Romney's out! it is good romney is out. anyone who cannot separate church and state is a liability to not only this country but to the entire world. look where we are right now. when one's religion leads them to think their actions are led by god, we have a problem, houston. we will constantly be at war.
Perhaps you're thinking of huckabee?
yep, jaipur. huckabee, romney, bush, so many more...cookie cutters they b
The unfortunate thing is that there is still a dangerous faction....and it's not the people you named.
just my opinion - anyone who uses one particular personal religion in a publicly articulated fashion to lead a nation creates dangerous situations. you are right, the names go beyond the list i named.

.......what you said!
..... While we live according to race, colour or creed While we rule by blind madness and pure greed Our lives dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion Through the eons, and on and on Through the sorrow all through our splendour Don't take offence at my innuendo You can be anything you want to be Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be Be free with your tempo, be free be free Surrender your ego - be free, be free to yourself If there's a God or any kind of justice under the sky If there's a point, if there's a reason to live or die If there's an answer to the questions we feel bound to ask Show yourself - destroy our fears - release your mask Oh yes we'll keep on trying Hey tread that fine line Yeah we'll keep on smiling yeah And whatever will be - will be Innuendo - Queen / Freddie Mercury

RE: The ..2012.... Political thread
bill - i did not find you offensive at all - merely accurate. the interesting thing to me: if the united states is truly a nation of free expression, should obama not be invited to express himself? then, if the united states is truly a democracy, should not people just go vote for him or not? seems to me the discussion brings on much bigger issues than just obama... i'm surprised we in the u.s.a. are so shocked of an impending recession (and, as you mention, we drag the world along...) - with everyone's money going from their pockets into the 'global corporation' for 8 eight years, what is to be expected? the majority of us are growing financially poorer everyday as we pack the pockets of the 'haves.' on the surface we can say we are 'fighting terrorism' but what we are really doing is padding haliburton, the carlyle (spelling?) company, etc. today's headlines: exon makes giant profits...(because the price at the pump is crippling the consumer...they don't add that to the headline). in my opinion we can't get bush and cheney out of here fast enough. and, shame on them for what they are doing. i apologize for the rant. sometimes it just comes blowing out!!!
