I finished up the semester (Imy Sophomore year) with a cumulative 4.0 GPA, so I got the Presidents Sparks Award . Also, my English professor has encouraged me to try to publish the essay I wrote for my final paper in a Popular Culture Journal. I compared themes in "Equus" with themes in Popular Music. I based my research on Sartre, Kierkegaard, Camus, and Kaft. I used the themes of masochism (compared with Richey James of Manic Street Preachers), the oedipus complex (The Doors song "The End"), the religious nature of fans (Smiths fans), the religious nature of songs (Stone Roses), and the subjectivity of religion (U2 and Joy Divison). Personal Jesus A Comparitive Analysis betweeen Equus and Popular Music Through Existentialism

RE: What are you reading now?
I'm doing research for an English essay I'm writing on "Equus"
. I'm comparing the Existentialistic themes within the play with Popular Music. Currently, I'm reading a bit of "Notes from Underground."

Been listening to these guys everyday on the way to and from school for the last week
I love all their albums thus far, but "Holy Bible" is probably my favorite. Richey just added such a dark element to the band, especially by this point. Some real disturbing stuff.. I've become a maniac for the manics

I love Pulp
. "Different Class" is a fantastic Brit Pop album
. I actually saw Bob Marley's son, Damien Marley open for U2
. It was pretty neat to see
. I'll have to check out Dusty Springfield
. I'm really liking Duffy's album and everyone seems to be calling her the "new Dusty Springfield"
. So, I'd imagine it'd make sense to check out the original
. This is Duffy's new one:

Saw this video for the first time this morning on VH1 (yes, if you get up early enough, they show videos
....well, they only show new ones, but if you get up REALLY early (as I do
:
), you may be able to catch a couple that they show from early 2000
: ). Anyway, this is a gorgeous video
. I was surprised Aton did it. His videos are usually in black and white....his photography is, too. This is really great, though. The effects are really neat. "Viva la Vida" - Coldplay:

Been listening to a lot of Pulp lately. "Common People":
Interesting fact about that particular video: The song was Pulp's most popular single, and became an instant classic in the UK soon after its release. The accompanying video featured an early appearance from actress Sadie Frost, a dance routine improvised by Cocker on the day of shooting, and an homage to the Eleanor Rigby sequence in the film Yellow Submarine (with everyday people stuck in repeating loops lasting less than a second). Different Class is a great Brit Pop album. Jarvis really does a phenomenal job of incompassing what Brit Pop is all about. Fantastic album. "Hardcore" is good, too. Different that "Different Class"....less pop oriented, but it has a really excellent of way of using strings in a darker manner.
