what do vegetarians feed their pets???

dogs and cats love meat, all kinds, cats especially love chicken and fish, but dogs can go crazy over chicken too wanting it. i know, since becoming mistress of a big black doberman pincher, who is very gentle and docile for a doberman & i'm glad. he starts barking real loud though when he's hungrier than usual and is being picky and only wants the humans' dinners. sometimes i wish he were a cute little ball of fluff instead of almost big as a pony. so you roll up soft dog food in texas toast sized slices of soft bread to feed to him, to fill him up faster, but he's started refusing that. and when there's real meat inside he'll discard the bread and just eat the meat. he's caught on. it can near bout drive you nuts sometimes, begging him to eat certain things, and him begging at the table. when i close the door to the kitchen he'll near bout kick it in. with a loud frightening kicking door in sound from his strong legs and paws. has torn up two screen doors.

I don't know what they serve their pets, but I once saw a recipe for a wholegrain organic home made dog biscuit. Dogs are omnivores and can eat either, but don't feed them scraps with spices or high fat. I've been told by my vet that high fat diets to dogs can lead to arthritis, especially in the hips. Cats are actually carnivores. Mine was a ferrel cat I rescued and she still hunts for herself. She brings red and brown squirrels, moths, mice, and moles to the door and sets them in her food dish. She'll eat them when she's ready.

My cat only wants dry food so that's what she get. Luckily she doesn't want the tinned meat food so I'm good At least the dry food doesn't look like it once was an animal. Not once did I consider 'raising' my cats as vegetarians. Cats are carnivores, they need their meat. You can't raise a dog only as a vegetarian as well. Their system does need the proteins that's in meat. I'm sure they put it in veggie pet food as well but I stick with feeding them meat. As long as I don't have to eat it I'm good

You can certainly feed dogs on an entirely vegetarian diet - in fact, I have heard vets recommend it in some cases.Cats are more tricky, but it is possible. Cats are often very picky, however, and it is difficult to get them to eat anything!

I have to say that I am the proud human companion of nine dogs, six cats and three horses! I don't say owner because actually they own me. Their wish is my command on most days. I often say that my house is nothing more then a $300,000 dog/cat house and I'm just the caretaker who lives there. I used to allow my horses to roam freely in the yard until they figured out how to open the door and come in! For real! Hooves are hard on hardwood floors, ya know? But as far as the meat issue with the dogs and cats, I've heard that dogs can be healthy on a vegetarian diet. They eat dry food which is made from cereals and grains. But cats have to have meat in their diets, at least a little, so they get some canned meat food along with their dry food. Some of the cats don't care for the canned and that's OK. But the one that doesn't seems to like to kill birds/rodents and consume them so that is probably where he gets his animal protein. If any of you have ever had a cat that "kills", you know that it is very difficult to stop them from this, and I've tried, but since the majority of my guys are rescues and strays, some of their "habits" are long set in place. I've tried the bell on the collar thing and he just rips it off! LOL! So I try to keep the three "outdoor" cats inside until at least ten in the morning. The other cats are all indoor and never request to go out. Just like people, every one is different. So meat to the cats and veggies to the dogs! Now, if I could just get my horses off of their daily sugar fix! Cheers, L
