The ..2012.... Political thread

Interesting post from my PASAR (Patriotic Americans for a Second American Revolution) Facebook page: [Dave OldClown] Lets start an initiative right here and now to cut the pay and benefit packages of every elected official in the United States. We can start with a 15% across the board cut to their pay, a 15% cut in any and all retirement packages they receive from the American taxpayers, and make them pay for their own medical insurance. [PASAR] I like your idea, but I don't think it goes far enough. Given how much they make, and the fact that many (if not most) of them are already Millionaires, I think a 50% cut would be reasonable. As for Pensions, do you know ANYWHERE in the Private Sector where you can work 2 years and collect FULL Pension for life? What part of "Civil Servant" do these people not understand? Why should the so-called Servants have better than US - their supposed "Masters?" [Dave OldClown] I'm compelled to agree, I think if Americans, who are being forced to make painful sacrifices, are presented with these facts as you've just stated them, that this can be cultivated into a major issue. And it would show the people who in Washington is willing to make the same kind of sacrifices we are.

I people general are becoming way to dependent on government handout. If people could not get food stamps guess how fast they be sweeping floors.
But isn't free handouts the basis to liberal philosophy?
My God -- if that's what conservatives actually think, NO WONDER there's such a disconnect. To answer your question: No. But it is decent and humane to ensure that all children have quality education. It is decent for sick Americans to not have to arm-wrestle greedy insurance companies. If we want to compete globally, we must invest in higher education. And if you wanna talk hand-outs, corporate welfare is what's the bigger issue. I am willing to pay taxes because we'd have no defense or education system without them.

It seems cruel to badmouth the foodstamp program, considering all the hungry/starving children there are in America
-
It seems - if you're poor in America, most folks secretly believe that you're somehow responsible. This is America, after all; Land of Opportunity. Home of the American Dream where anybody willing to work hard can go from rags to riches.
-
I must repeat, it seems cruel to badmouth food stamps. Considering all the hungry/starving children in America. There's a NoKidsHungry campaign that's beneficial but it can't do it all, nor can grassroots efforts by churches, or the Salvation Army, or United Way, it's great that Snickers candy bar corp. is helping along with some other corporations

but the abuse of that program is huge. Today they hand cards out and lot of these people trade them for drugs. They busted drug dealers and found 100 of food stamp cards. Same as cash to the drug dealer/ Where we need cuts is also looking at the abuse of the current systems in place. That were cuts need to happen. Like how much they charge medicare. The doctor complain but take all the government insurance program out of the health care system..watch prices drop.

This was email to me to send off so I'll post it here. However than I got a email back from a friend saying it was not 100% not factual. Congress does pay into SS. However her info came from a right wing nut job site. I'll post that later. here the email for those interested. I think it well said. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure. I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on your address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. 2. Congress (past, present and future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

of course there all frigging zillionairs so like this is going to make a dent.

The issue of paramount importance is that hungry children get fed. The drug dealer food stamp cards for drugs thing...why is that more important to you than the children?

More pinguinomics... An economy based on penguins will make dissappear unemployment. Because the growth of the economy will absorbe the growth of the population. Some say... "but, as technology advances, we need less people employed to care for the same number of penguins..." No problem. We'll go into debt. The goverment, the business companies, the families... with the money we'll get from the loans we will make the demand of penguins so high that the economy will absorbe the growth of population and the growth of productivity/technology. Some say... "one of these days we'll have to pay the loans, or, if ever, the interests..." No problem. We'll get some more loans to pay the other loans. Some say then there will come the time we just wouldn't be able to pay the loans... well, you know... the pinguin market will find a way to balance itself somehow... And some even say... OK! We'll grow our pinguin-economy forever to absorbe the growth of population and the growth of technology with a ever growing demand based on a ever growing debt... but if the demand is ever-growing... there will come the time we will run out of resources in the world... don't worry, the pinguin economy will find a way to balance it somehow. We'll have a loooot of penguins, so nothing to worry about.

so, in order to eliminate the Welfare Fraud of a few (and, yes, it is a small percentage), you want to starve millions? People trading their Food Stamps for Drugs is the symptom of a problem, but it isn't a problem with the Food Stamp program. ANYTHING done to try fix it by changing, or even eliminating, the Food Stamp program, would be putting a band aid on the REAL problem - the Government's idiotic, destructive, costly "Drug War."

No more penguins. Sometimes it looks like the political-economic system wants to distroy itself, just like the monster on yellow submarine who sucked everything till it sucked itself. No oppossition, no anti-system, no bad cirscumstance just the system on a self-destructive attitude. This would be the theme song for this, (if it's true, I don't know...)
"don't stop meeeeeee" the other main option is this, I guess -

I think any decent human being (regardless of party affiliation) would want to ensure no one is starving and that they have a roof over their head...and on a down note, I've many folks from both sides of the isle say 'eff the homeless'. From my view, the difference is that liberals will 'give first' and ask questions later. I believe that the effort to put these people back in a state of self sufficiency should be more urgent than (as an example) passively mentioning as an aside that if they'd like, there are free educational benefits they can take advantage of...some people are truly down on their luck, but others just need a major (proverbial ) kick in the balls... And to make an analogy, if you ever heard the expression 'give a man a fish, feed him for a day - teach a man to fish, feed him for a life time'...I believe Liberals basically adhere to the former part of that expression while conservatives adhere to the latter

I not saying it not a important program but I saying its doesn't seem to have simple safe guards like putting the person picture on the card so it can't be used by anyone other than the intended. Small changes that can help keep cost down and keeps the program alive for all those who need it. No I'm not saying its a bad program at all. But like anything if you make things too easy they will get abused....with that said considering what the banks did to all of us..who cares.

The bottom line is many many thousands of people including children are hungry and need help with getting food. Not just in other countries, but in America.
-
well, according the american dream theory... are those kids hungry because they want it? or is it only the parents have no food for them because they want it?
