"Blue Sway"
-
Just watched the video for "Blue Sway," a Paul song...which I gather is a never-previously-released bonus track on the vinyl edition of "McCartney II." Not bad; very nice melody. Too bad it will likely remain obscure.
-
Well, obscure as compared to the Beatles, maybe, or compared to Band on the Run but the video got posted on YouTube and has more than 85,000 hits. And it won an award recently as best video at a New York short film festival.

Well deserved... I think it's beautiful and the video goes so well with the song. I could see more of these videos for the EA album, like Lover's in a Dream for example... Once again, Paul is doing something different... just amazing!!

I dind't mean the video, I meant the song itself. It deserves prominence on his McCartney II release rather than just being available as a bonus track on the delux vinyl issue...I believe.

Er, there are two versions of Blue Sway on the second disc of the McCartney II Cd reissues. Which version are you talking about that's only available on vinyl?

The release of Blue Sway is not quite as limited as your post suggests. It is the leading track on the bonus disc in all the formats carrying bonus material. That's the: Vinyl as you mentioned. Deluxe Edition - on the first of two CDs of bonus tracks The Special Edition - which has one bonus disc and in all digital download formats mp3, lossless, apple lossless and Hi-Rez (with ths sole exception of the Standard Edition download) So there are a lot of us out there appreciating this piece. As mentioned it heads up the CD so Paul has given it due regard in it's release now. In all the remasters the main CD is untouched with new material or reordering, they come "as first released" so to have Blue Sway as next track in the playlist is high regard indeed. Martin

I asked this on another thread but nobody knew the answer. Did Paul recently record the vocals or was that done in 1986 when it was meant for Cold Cuts?

No-one seems to know that. I think his voice sounds youngish, so he probably dubbed the vocals at some time in the 80s at one of the many Cold Cuts sessions. Maybe they're from '86.

The notes in the deluxe issue indicate that the original recording was in 1979, with overdubs recorded September/October 1986 as part as the Cold Cuts project. I assume that the overdubs in 1986 included the vocals, and agree that the sound of his voice sounds very mid-1980s.

I love the track. It convinced me to buy the remastered McII.

Uh, er, I really should have researched it all a bit more before posting in the first place. It (Blue Sway) is apparently available on several editions. I guess since I haven't been "that into" McCartney II, as I recall not liking much on it in the first place, I really didn't have enough knowledge as to what may be there now, on the remaster. I guess what sticks in my mind about that album is that I felt it all was beneath him...at the time....and didn't play it much after listening to the (to me) dreadful "Temporary Secretary." Maybe I'll buy a song or two now from it.

Only reason why I bought McCartney II was for Blue Sway and the book. That's it.

Blue sway is rather nice like the sound and the video is so cool looking I love to cach a wave when in FL every time I go so now I will think of that song when in the big deep bule

The vocals were most likely done in '86 and definitely not recent. Someone should ask Fiachra Trench. He'd know for sure and has commented on Paul was doing vocal overdubs during the Sept./Oct. '86 Cold Cuts sessions while they were working on the 14 tracks.
