when you are answering an original poster...you are the 1st answer...why does one feel the need to quote? No one else is up above the original poster...you must be answering them.

Look at me giving an example of your pet peeve. Right now, with the time travel issues, I'm trying to quote everything I'm replying to just because I never know if my answer will appear above what I'm answering.

no, I didn't explain myself well. Sorry. I meant in a new thread...guess I should have said that. Someone starts a thread & writes a frickin paragraph & then the person quotes the entire paragraph. I like people to quote...don't get me wrong esp now with the time probs. Sometimes someone answers a post from a page back & you go huh? where did that come from...when they don't quote.

Oh yes, I get you--that is rather...odd. There's no other posts, so why quote? : And yes, I'd much rather someone quote than not in a busy thread with many posts, as otherwise they make NO sense at all, replying to who knows what? :

Glad that you understood me. I tend to talk in shorthand at times...been too busy & been doing too many things at once. : Such is life.

I tend to do the same. One of my married friends gave me the greatest example of this the other day: his wife always asks for him to help her with "the thing", and "the thing" changes depending on the situation. For example, "Honey, can you hand me the thing?" "Honey, can you do the thing before you go?" Honey, can you not take the thing with you? I need it..." "Honey, I can't believe you said the thing during the party!" Try figuring THAT out.

now THAT is a difficult one!

I work with them both, and they're quite funny to watch when they're together.

One of my pet peeves on this forum is when people quote pictures and the next person quotes their quote with the same picture. We get the idea! Also, we don't need people quoting 6 or 7 people at the same time. My 2 cents.

I often wonder if everyone knows how to edit quotes so that you only quote one or two people instead of the entire conversation...
-
oobu24:
we've discussed this a few pages back. I see a problem with people editing too much out so that you have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe just edit out the pics? Or if there is really a bunch of garbage...edit it out.
There's a balance that needs to exist when editing, for sure. There's no need for EVERY post of a conversation in a reply, but you're also right that only a word or two of a previous post often doesn't help the reader get the gist of what's going on...
