Anniversary of a great surprise appearance by John Lennon with Elton John
Just noticed John's "boogie" shoes!
We all had those in 1974. I went from 5'11" to 6'2" when I put on my "boogie" shoes.

and now.. my friend and yours.. Mr. John Lennon!... (crowd goes ape shit) not that that was how he was introduced but here's the real deal. hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving 1 - 2 - 3 - 4!

For the kind of people who has to have everything: These recordings exist in 3 different mixes. the 1975 B-side mix ("I saw her standing there" only) the 1981 EP mix (all three songs) (also released on the box set "Lennon") the 1995 expanded "Here and There" Mix (all three songs)

I have the 1981 version, which is from Germany, that looks like a 12" LP but it is played at 45RPM. (also have the Lennon boxed set) ETA: I just discovered I also have the 3 songs (1981 EMI British release) on a 7" record that is played at 33 1/3!

I don't have the 12" version. Haven't seen one in real life. I come across it somewhere, I will probably buy it if the price is right. The 1995 mixes have some of the instruments placed differently in the sound picture. But they are not very different from the other mixes. (Unlike Zappa's mix of the Fillmore Concert. That one is different!)

Damn little lamb, I guess it goes to show there's always something we don't have. You're collection is incredible, per our discussion in that other thread, but you definitely need to pick up the 12" single of that performance, it sounds great! I remember I paid $22 for it, damn near mint condition. the actual vinyl itself is mint regarding the Zappa thing, didn't John flat out remove some of the 'Mothers of Invention' bits from his mixed versions for STINYC? I read that they actually had an amicable verbal agreement though that each would release their own version of that performance, for reasons I can't imagine.. but I'm guessing ABKCO somehow got in the way of Zappa's release seeing the light of day, until finally surfacing in the last decade or so, right? Also the credit of the tune of Jamrag I know was a source of debate, as it was shown as credited to Lennon/Ono on STINYC, and Zappa claimed that the whole basis of that jam was something he and the Mothers had worked on prior to that performance. that whole situation is a little shady, but I think the whole thing comes down to ABKCO and how they wanted to lay claim to it as a record company. I don't see John trying to screw over Zappa, John liked Zappa. Zappa definitely held a gudge against John on that whole sitiation though. probably rightfully so from his perspective. Klein was a cut-throat jerk. IMO a case of business getting in the way of friendly meaningful artistic collaboration. bogus.

Anyone attend this Thanksgiving night concert in 1974? quite the historic night there, Lennon's last public concert appearance, correct? I'd like to have seen how crazy that was when John came on at the last song John quipped 'we're going to do one more so I can get out of here and go be sick'.. They did a good version of Whatever Gets You Through The Night, a jammy Lucy, and a fun nod to Macka with the rockin I Saw Her Standing There. Elton talked about the concert in his 1976 interview with Playboy magazine: "I was so knocked out by Lennon - everyone was just standing there in amazement. I was halfway through Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - which I always do with my eyes closed - and suddenly there were all these lighted matches in the audience. Usually they do that at the end, when you come back for an encore, but this time it was right in the middle of the song. And I just started to cry...The rush I felt came from the audience - and from Lennon, who really stole the show. It was magic." ![](

Was asked by a girl who was a big Elton fan and broke up with her boyfriend a couple of weeks before the concert. We started talking at a local bar and she said she had extra ticket and would I like to go. I liked Elton and say yes but totally freaked when Lennon came on stage. BTW - we dated for about a year after that show.

I bet you "Please Pleased" her after that show!

Man thats an awesome bit of luck right there! good for you, what a show! Here's a cool pic I'd not seen of John and the Elton band backstage and here's another which looks to be from the same night, but May Pang is in it. Don't remember hearing that she was with John for that show.
-
Stands to reason she was there as John wasn't back with Yoko yet. That is Neil Sedaka on the far right.
-
john wasn't back with yoko might explain why John was singing Paul's song

Yoko was in the audience, and she met with John afterward, backstage, and I think that's when the relationship was resumed.

That's the same story that I've heard. oh & he was real nervous because she was in the audience.
-
makes it more ironic singing Paul's song with yoko listening on

A great day in the Annals of John! make sure to get that 2nd N in there

(heh-heh...he said "annals." heh-heh)
