Mod post: Can we please stop the personal attacks and bickering? The topic at hand is regarding the quality of Paul's voice... Can we return to this, please?

Exhibit C Yesterday 1965 or 1966 live, same story than the previous video...
If the Internet would have existed back then we would have had the same discussion, it's funny but it's true. 1966... "Paul can't sing like he sang" "You critize every thing Paul does" "Paul sings different depending on the day" I don't know if it's true with Paul, Freddie said that he could sing higher or not and better or not depending on his mood. Maybe this was discussed in the 60s, but I don't think so, people didn't have access to every little live performance. Now it's like every performance is in front of the whole world. We could start a new thread, THE WORST LIVE VOCALS OF MACCA EVER Old Siam Sir live 1979 -

Exhibit A:
Hey, one of my fav vocals of Paul. He sounds like I sounded in 2011. btw, this is rock and roll, you're not supposed to sound in any exact way, there's no score... It's not opera, where every second is predictable and controlled, and lacking any freedom. You can change the whole song if you want to, each and every little note. I think Paul will fight for his right to sing in freeeeeeeeeeeedom...
What you say is the absolute truth I thought rock and roll was all about passion and freedom, not note perfect singing, which I don't think has ever occured in all honesty. I still think this is all about ageism. Once Paul crossed that 70 line all hell has broken loose. People have so much fear of it that they would prefer to erase the picture than embrace it and revere it as they should. It's not about the singing ability, its about the picture that was presented that disturbed the most I believe. All I can hope for at this point is for Paul to ignore all the negativity and show that life doesn't end when one is supposed to collect their pension. Those who think that will reach that milestone all too soon and won't like the treatment once they get there unless people like Paul are willing to knock down those stereotypes.

in my considered opinion you are way off the mark here. it would not matter to me if paul turnned up covered in his own excrement with a nurse holding his colostomy bag...if he sounded good i would not care.....age is just a number, and if paul sounded this bad when he was 40 i would have called for his live retirement just the same....its all about protecting his legacy, not keeping cash disposable bootlegbeatles fans entertained for the night.

yes, I agree, as Paul always says "What do you want me to do, sitting down and watch TV?" maybe "typing at some internet board"??? Well, rock is also bout singing "well", but that "well" is your decision, you can forget about skill if you want to (Like Lennon in Twist And Shout) you can start doing opera in Pavarotti's style, you can sing bluesy or you can do all kind of effortless vocal acrobatics that would blow Mariah Carey's mind... no rules.

Everytime I'd ever started to have my doubts about Paul's voice, he would defy me each time. I thought he was a tad shaky on Oprah in '97, as well as the Montserrat event that same year (granted -- considering what he was going through at the time -- he held up beautifully). Then, when RDR came out in '99, it was as if he'd gotten into a time machine. At The Concert For New York City in '01, I didn't think it was his best vocal, despite doing a pretty good job on "I'm Down." Again, the following year, he blew all of us away on the Driving tours. And so on and so on. This is not the time to count the man out. Despite a wavered couple of notes, his vocals at the Olympics, overall, displayed a smooth, robust voice. He sounded a lot like the real Paul McCartney to me. And I think something awesome in in store for us.
The opinion of a great singer, btw. ...

I'm a gigantic James Brown fan. And not even The Godfather Of Soul himself could "scream" anywhere near he could in his heyday, but his concerts remained worth the price of the ticket. James Brown is essentially the r&b/funk equivalent to McCartney in rock/pop -- writer, singer, multi-instramentalist, most-influential, etc. Paul's concerts have now become more of an occasion to celebrate the songs, not so much the singer. Just like James Brown's concerts became. And they rocked, baby. Paul still has his golden moments, vocally, even if he's past his vocal prime.

I just listened to a perfectly awful rendition by Paul of Let Me Roll It from the Wings era. (I have too many bootlegs for my own good). It happens, and while I don't think short shows have ever been Paul's strength (Only Love Remains makes me wince on some tv show Paul did back then) the fact that Paul can and still does take an audience to new heights and good feeling as recently as this past May just proves without a shadow of a doubt that there are many more performance years ahead. And since when can't people spend their money on anything they choose? I've only seen Paul about 40 times which pales in comparison to some of the people who used to post on this board, but I never came away thinking that it wasn't money well spent. And I certainly hope I can do so in the future as well. Knowing Paul, if any of this nonsense has gotten back to him it will only strengthen his resolve as it has in the past.

well knowing paul, non of this will ever get back to him because he obviously dosent listen to advice on his singing from anyone. however you are completely wrong about 'only love remains'...the only 2 live tv spots i can remember of him singing live where fantastic, both light years better than anything that comes out of his live voice these days.......
i rest my case yer honour -

yes, I guess you like it, but of course the vocals are forced... That's another irony of these discussions, if Paul sings it perfectly, effortlessly then it's not so "rocking" and it Paul sings in "with and edge" then it's not so melodic... of course! Paul could have sung Hey Jude just like the original recording and then some could say that he wasn't "rocking", no "powerful vocals", etc. "he sings like a girl" and all that... I'm never satisfied with women (I mean girlfriend-stuff), some are never satisfied with singers.... we can't help it. I'm high on water. 2:

i rest my case yer honourActually I only know the second one and I still find it difficult to watch. The first was pretty good. However as I've listened and heard his live voice maybe about 30 times in the past 10 years , in small and large settings, I have to say that you are way off the mark. Now I haven't seen him for about a year now, but I do know people who have and they say some of his best vocals were done this past year. Of course the sound of his voice has changed over the years. I imagine it also changed when he went from being a child to a teen, and a teen to a man, and every decade onward. Isn't that normal? I have no expectations of him sounding or looking like he did in 1968. That would be freaky. But most of us can and do adjust expectations and are left in awe of someone who is still capable of putting on an amazing show that imo has only improved over the last decade. Now if some are still expecting to see the 60's, 70's 80's 90's and early 2000 Paul, yes they will be disappointed. He isn't any of those people anymore. He's changed and evolved. I'm not saying he's perfect. I do personally think there are some tweaks and changes he can and should do, however, should he give up what he loves because others have a different agenda for him? I don't think so and neither should anyone else because it isn't their place to do so. And in case you didn't realize, I was only using a phrase. I don't really know Paul, and I'm pretty sure you don't either.

I was in the UK at that time Man/Liverpool together.. the stand out is Liverpool for Maybe I'm Amazedx~
