And now the time is near....

Mr Billy Budapest:
I watched the Olympics and it was not very good. I remember Bob Geldof once saying if you're going to feck it up, you might as well do it in front of millions of people! lol. Paul even laughed himself Hope he puts it behind him, learns from it and moves on.
This is one of the most constructive things anyone has said in pages! Yes, let's hope he takes some time, reflects on things, and makes some changes. I see lots of people on this thread expressing extreme positive and extreme negative opinions in the past 2 weeks, and both types have a right to their opinions. I don't think the positive commenters need to be shouted down any more than the negative ones do. And I'm grateful that Paul and his folks are obviously not censoring people from criticizing him, as this thread clearly shows after nearly 60 pages!

Well...it's had it's fair share of cutting and pasting...and a little time travel too.
Minus cutting, we're probably at 100 pages at this point.

And even with all those cuts there's no shortage of sometimes harsh criticism in this thread. Yay free speech, respectfully practiced.

Macca Mad:
SusyLuvsPaul:
You two Brits who just disagreed with me, you're hopeless hard heads with no chance of ever getting through to you, looks like. When will you stop bringing us more enthusiastic, positive fans down (or trying to, rather) ? Brief appearances at huge events on the telly, however executed, are not nearly enough to tarnish the resplendent glories of Macca's overall legend and career. All his towering achievements remain as a matter of public record which can be explored and enjoyed by any who desire to investigate him and his music. They will be gobsmacked, and enthralled. All his potential to do more great things soon and in the future, remains. No fleeting telly appearance can doom that exhilarating probability.
If i'm a " hopeless hard head " at one end of the spectrum then you seem to be head in the sand delusional fanatic at the other. On record his back catalogue is fantastic, I know ive got 95% of it over the years, even his weak stuff is better than most peoples records. However i'm talking about him NOW, not live in '93 or on record in'78 but NOW, & now things don't look ( or sound good ), it might have been a " fleeting tv appearance " but it went down like a lead balloon here in the UK & was the final nail in the coffin of his reputation amongst the general public & even casual fans. Their perception of him is now along the lines of an old man trying to act & look far younger than his years, who relies on flogging the Beatle connection to within an inch of it's life, whilst being unable to sing the songs anymore. And after years of defending him against such views, I find it hard to disagree with many of the comments, as he does look odd, sounds vocally weak & i'm tired of the Beatle roadshow. As i've said in another post, the game is up as far as the UK goes i fear, he could barely keep a CD in the charts a month before all this & wasn't selling out concerts as far back as 1993, so after the last 2 TV shows he really has an uphill struggle on his hands unless things really change, I fear though his UK audience has left him for good now, I hope I am wrong.
Well that isn't how he's seen here, so send him to us!!!
Yes I agree...send him to us!!! We love you in the States !!!

Hard head in my neck of the woods is not very pleasant, much the same as calling someone the familiar name for Richard or the slang word for the male reproductive organ used when someone is not being very considerate. Anyway different strokes, misunderstandings and postage stamps.

None of this matters, years from now history will prove Paul McCartney's place in music history along side John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Brian Wilson, Ray Davies, Rodgers and Hart, Beethoven, Mozart, Elvis Presley, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, etc. These same people will be saying when Paul's no longer here how much they loved his music....
I totally agree with this, so sad that people start to talk about this issue. And we don't care how he sounds in the performances, hope he could come to China, he got so many fans here.
Welcome to Paul's forum, Oeanary. All the way from China! I wonder if you're the first person here posting from China? At any rate, we're a feisty bunch with lots and lots of opinions about Paul and his music and his career. Hope you'll be joining in.
Thx Michelley, I have already registered for some time but this is the first time I post. Been a fan of the Beatles and Paul for over ten years, and we do have a lot of die-hard fans of the band here in China. Hope you could check the website in my signature (I don't know if it could be shown 'cause I just updated my profile) , this is one of the forums we use to discuss and share our opinions toward the band and also about John, Paul, George and Ringo. As I said before, China IS way too far from you guys but our LOVE for the music is the same

I thought that too. "in front of 2 billion people". He had the balls of not warming up in front of half the planet, why should he warm up for 10000 people performances?.

A HD audio of Paul's Hey Jude performance as it was broadcasted live
or so 2 notes out of key, as he uses to do in any first song at his concerts and the rest is typical McCartney... well that 2 notes out of key at the start are typical McCartney too He was the only singer in the Olympics who got the people to sing along, he and Eric Idle, I think. -

well, for commenting all this, Paul probably would go on with My way's lyrics... My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and ev'ry highway And more, much more than this, I did it my way Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing To think I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way, "Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way" For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows and did it my way! Yes, it was my way

No hardhead does not mean that over here... hard·head·ed (härdhdd) adj. 1. Stubborn; willful. Remember... Cat Stevens was looking for a hard headed woman? I find British English and American English so completely different...both in meaning and pronunciation. It's so confusing and causes alot of un meant miscommunications.

Thanks for your message Oceanary, actually I thought u were called oceanary and I typed it that way at first, then deleted and changed it 'cause I saw it was spelled differently. You could try and e-mail one of the mods to ask if your name can be changed or sign up for a new account and start from the beginning. Anyway have fun on here! And be careful, this place is very addictive
