Look at you two over there disagreeing you know what, I do give todays music its due credit. There's some really good stuff out there. But music really is missing the big time melodious hit making pop/rock band, that like knowingly get into acid and go psycodelic. nowadays a jump into pyschodelia barely moves the needle. Thats another thing, and just a truth in a way of 'as time goes by'.. as something grows it's always evolving to some extent from whats already been done. things today very often sound like something from the past. Either in production (a lot of the time), and in the song writing. that hurts the rep of music today. but there are artists so evolved in their fields and know their instruments so well, there is actually a greater amount of 'good' music out there today. For people who liked the Beatles and their style of music there is a gap in the market today. Now that Oasis disbanded

Yo Kap, do you like Tame Impala?
Edited to add this lovely track too: -

Yo Kap, do you like Tame Impala?
Edited to add this lovely track too:I am a fan now! Both of the tracks are interesting, the first one Elephant has such a jerky vibe it almost sounded like bad edits when I first heard it, but by the end of the song you get it. And it ends up showing a real mastery of rhythm from the singer. Who sounds a lot like Lennon sometimes I'll look into some of their other stuff

I saw "Crossfire Hurricane" documentary about the Rolling Stones' career last night, and it illustrated to me there really is more variety and diversity in Beatles' music than in the mostly blues oriented Stones fare. That's an ancient music scene's dilemma, which is better? Beatles or Stones? but seeing that made me ponder it. As Kapoo pointed out, it does seem difficult to keep up with most of the new music unless one is very young when that seems to happen naturally, somehow, as in listening to college radio stations, for instance. But you shouldn't be assumed to have lost your rapport for rock music and love for music in general just because you've become mature and not a teen or in your early 20's, or that you're not "you" anymore and have lost all fairness of face and form and all allure just because of a number, your age--that is fairly often not the case. Even some of today's youth can be prone to just digging the mainstream music and not getting into alternative.

I always appreciate songs for the songs they are, or the lyricism and individuality. I like certain songs from all the worst artists ever, Britney Spears Toxic is a sweet song. Ke$ha has a bunch (she's an amazing writer btw), not really anything by Beiber but I even like at least one or two songs on the rap scene going around, almost always love eminem. basically you can find me one song I'll like on any album. but I think music itself is okay today. very impressive to me in the 90, but we all could use a special album from someone, something like what Nevermind did. on a raw real side, and poppy. just a writer that's extra good. Brandon Flowers has been good. And Foo Fighters, but i get tired of the Foo Fighters now. loved their first album

Audi and me agree lots of times and also disagree lots of time, you know, it's only communication... I don't mind if something sounds like anything old at all... it's all in the quality, it can sound like Bach, if it's near as great as the Bach's greatest sure I'll like it (like Paul's "Gratia"). There's a lot of great music today out there but the mainstream is worst than ever... or at least the worst in 50 years, since 1962, or maybe before 1955. Kind of like when Lennon said "Before Elvis there was nothing", kind of... Imagine some artist with a quality similar to The Beatles now getting into mainstream, it would seem like they're aliens or so, lol. That's what seemed then...

Eminem believe it or not is the last music act I can think of as making solid albums, influencing others rappers and changing the current music scene in a huge way. Up until 2003 at least. He was also on of the biggest selling artist of the 00's, next to The Beatles that is!

I agree, I'll go a step further and say that guys a genius. but in terms of other good rock bands i see the progression as something like this from the 90's, all great bands: Nirvana Alice In Chains Dave Matthews Baned Stone Temple Pilots Nine Inch Nails Smashing Pumpkins Beck Janes Addiction Sublime Foo Fighters and then,.,, Blink 182 Fall Out Boy and the crew of skater bands.. Train John Mayer Mraz and you've gotten a lot of shit recently.. Creed, who ever those other bands are that sound like them... but the others I mentioned are all bands I love.

Creed is Christian rock, just slightly crankier.

Cranky Christian is an actual sub-genre yeah no thanks.

I know you guys don't think it's cool to appreciate some of the Christian rock music You probably haven't really listened to it, given it a chance. It's not all Jesus freak lyrics. A lot of the singing is really emotional and moving. And some of the melodies are great. They feature a variety of music styles, something for just about everybody. Give K-Love FM Christian rock station a bit of your ear time sometime. You might be surprised

Uh-oh Susy's a Creed fan nothing wrong with that if you are anyway, I don't discriminate. The thing about Christian Rock/music for me is the lyrics. it can be fine musically but its always singing about something meaningful or something, and a lot of common vocabulary too, and repetitive vocabulary song to song. Thats my take from what I've heard. I will give K-Love another shot though just for you Susy I didn't even realize Creed was quazi-Christian. I just think they're full blown lame. Even their best songs are this dude just going 'AAAAWWWWWWWWWWGGGGHHHHH'. congrats dude, nice gimmick that your entire repetoir is based on. hey they sold millions of records though so good for them. Creed has sold so many records its sick.

I agree, the biggest problem with Christian rock and pop music is the massive amount of cliche in the lyrics. Way too insular, and with less and less of interest to say to those outside the churchy subculture. There are a few exceptions. Gungor are a pretty good band, and I really like their album "ghosts upon the earth" especially. Burlap to Cashmere are good too. Back in the day I really liked dcTalk's 1995 album "Jesus Freak" which was a really decent rock album with good lyrics - all the more surprising when you listen to the really horrendously rubbish rap music they were releasing just a couple of years earlier. Although those early albums do have a strange charm and are good for a laugh. They went from:
to this in just 3 or 4 years -
This is not main stream its classical but i think she is amazing

I went to a Christian college. I am well-versed in Amy Grant; I've been repulsed by Michael W. Smith; I used to shag a dancer for DC Talk; I like 2nd Chapter Of Acts...I love Matthew Ward's solo stuff even more (amazing voice); I even once had a Whiteheart phase. I'll take traditional gospel and Elvis over Christian pop any day of the week -- Sunday, particularly. I know what of I speak.

Does that check out grammatically audi? I'm thinking I'll make a follow on statement about Christian music, and say it blows even more! kidding, I wanted to say that each person has their own passions and interests they express in their art. if someones passion is Christianity then that it great for them and they should be following their muse my muse is more funky rhythms and tight rhymes. but uh
