London/Liverpool visit: how to prepare, what to know
-
maccascruff:
I've been to the Beatles Coffee Shop. The book you recommended is the book I recommend for London earlier.
Well, now she has two recommendations for it.
-
Ok. My ducks are quacking. Here's what I've compiled from Maccascruff. I hope I got this all correct: ***Maccascruff?s suggestions 1. You need to buy this book: The Beatles London: A Guide to 467 Sites in and Around London ? recommended also by Nancy R. http://www.amazon.com/Beatles-London-Guide-Sites-Around/dp/1566567475 2. And this one on Liverpool: Beatles Liverpool ? Ron Jones http://www.amazon.com/The-Beatles-Liverpool-Complete-Guide/dp/0951170333 3. And while in London, you need to take one of Richard Porter's Beatles Walks. He has a website. They end at Abbey Road. http://www.beatlesinlondon.com 4. Can hire personal guides in Liverpool and do a Paul customized tour.
-
Nancy R.'s recommendations: ****From Nancy R.**** 1. http://www.grentours.co.uk General Tour of Historic Sites 2. Charles Rosenay?s tours: http://www.liverpooltours.com/home.htm DO NOT STAY AT the Adelphia Hotel in Liverpool per Maccascruff Can stay at the Hard Day's Night Hotel per Nancy. 3. Personal tours are quite expensive, even if you split the cost with several others. _______________________________________________________________ ****Tour guide book from The Beatles? Coffeeshop, London http://www.beatlescoffeeshop.com/shop/product.php/2/guide_to_the_beatles_london__guide_book_by_richard_porter Different from Beatles' London 467, I believe.
-
You got it! And if Charles says no to HDN Hotel,, mention my name. If he still says he can't do it, then go with www.beatletour.com which I went with in 2011. They always stay at the HDN hotel. The guy who runs it is not as on the ball as Charles, but the guides and places you see were great!! You just have to get your convention tickets on your own.

I'm with you--the tube in London is so much easier than the subway in NYC!!
-
I find the Tube in London much easier to navigate than the New York subway also. I've never lived there. Only been there as a tourist. On one trip, a friend took me places by bus and I found out that isn't a bad way to get around London either.

I absolutely LOVED the tube in London and never had any problems getting lost. The last time I was in London, I had to tell our tour group leader he was guiding the group the wrong way (to the wrong line) "No, we need the Piccadilly line!" (he was a rather clueless man from the NYC area!)
-
I love London was there last year but i do believe if you have not been before it can be scary. as iv lived there i do no my way round but still get a bit confussed when in a rush lol I was also in London in 2007 a week before it was attacked on the tube with school we was on a school trip we was called in to a room to be told about it because we was meant to be there that week but we had to go the week before for some reason.
-
I never found anything scary about the Tube, but then I live my life one day at a time and try not to worry about what if's. My schooling taught me a lot more than reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic. I got some common sense out of it also.
