Wings Over America & Rock Show DVD Reissue CONFIRMED
-
Not for nothing but they honestly could've omitted the Humphrey Ocean book to begin with and priced the set $30+ cheaper. I'm sure it's a nice keepsake but absolutely no need for it.
-
I agree with many others - this is SHOCKINGLY over-priced - especially if you live in the UK where it's the equivalent of $183 (please nobody suggest I get it from the US as the P&P negates this ok!) What's made this worse is that the woefully poor website (getting worse by the day) isn't offering their own deals this time around - before one had the option of a download only option (basically getting all the audio/video material without all the extra books and guff) but all we're getting is links to Amazon and itunes - if Paul (or his people) is trying to alienate an already annoyed fan it's working - after all the premier membership debacle this is one fan that is sick of being fleeced and unfairly treated...

Am I missing something or why MPL doesnt advertice Rockshow DVD? Havent seen any info anywhere? Or do they first release WOA edition and then focus Rockshow?
-
I think they're focusing on Rockshow's theatrical marketing first.

Straight from his site... ?Rockshow? DVD Release Second, for the first time a DVD will be released by Eagle Rock of the live concert film 'Rockshow' which was shot in 1976 when Paul McCartney & Wings undertook the epic ?Wings over the World? tour which was the largest-scale tour they would ever undertake as a band. Packed with all the classic Wings hits - plus some of The Beatles? and Paul?s solo classics - the film is released on both DVD and Blu-ray formats. Although filmed on this tour at the enormous Kingdome in Seattle, ?Rockshow?, originally a cut down version of the concert, was not premiered until November 1980 in New York and April 1981 in London. It was originally released on Betamax (later on laserdisc) but it?s only now that the complete full length concert is being made available fully restored from the original 35mm film and with restored & remastered sound, including a 5.1 mix for the first time. http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/27499-wings-over-america-to-be-reissued-in-may

Just a tip, iTunes does have WOA on the store now and you can preview all the tracks on the album. I am on the Canadian iTunes store and have been listening to all the previews.

Couldn't agree more. The new website is a messy fiasco - cluttered and poorly laid out. Why rockshow isn't available on the deluxe edition is a mystery. Hopefully the price on amazon will fall after a few months to about £55

The new site looks a lot like the premium version, just with a few less bells and whistles. But even the current, more limited site is FAR better than the static site Paul had 2 years ago. So I'm not sure what you're finding to be "cluttered." It still looks good to me -- just without the premium stuff. Anyway, as I recall, people complained a lot about the "deals" offered on Paul's Web site and there were also tons of complaints about late deliveries, etc, etc. No one seemed to like Topspin. And in fact, I always got a better deal -- price wise -- for Paul's deluxe sets on Amazon than from Paul's own site. MPL seems to have realized that it expensive to reinvent the wheel on this site when it must cost MPL far less (and create far fewer headaches, I imagine) to just let Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, etc., do what they do best. Out of curiosity I just checked some other musicians' web sites. U2 sells its CDs on its site via links to Amazon. Bob Dylan uses Myplaydirect.com. The Stones use Universal's web store. And a lot of them link directly to iTunes for downloads. So what Paul's site is doing now seems the norm. Still, I agree Amazon has this set waaaaaayyyy overpriced. I just noticed today it's gone UP to $156!!! It should be dropping but people must still be buying it because it's still in the top 100!!! This set should be less than $100. You'd think they would price it to sell, rather than pricing it NOT to sell. I just can't imagine paying $156 for it -- even though it looks fantastic.

This is just taking the mickey now! I understand putting out a quality product and expecting people to pay but when this is coming in at a huge increase in price over the sets put out to date....shocking and disappointing, frankly. WOA was the first solo McCartney album I purchased - back when it was originally released. It's a huge part of my life and the reissue I was the most looking forward to in this series. It actually upsets me that I will most likely not have it in my hands when it's released because of the seemingly arbitrary price point set. And what on earth explains the 66% jump between when Amazon first listed it and now?

That sounds right. 'Wings Over America' is due on 27th May (in the UK) with the 'Rockshow' blu-ray following two weeks later on 10th June, which is still about seven weeks away. I think MPL will get behind the marketing of the film nearer the time.

I dont know if this has been mentioned but the boxset is now 156 dollars on amazon US up 16 dollars very disappointing doesnt look like its going down.
-
Oddly enough the Canadian Amazon price just came down! It's now $134.00 or something. It was up around $290.00 or a figure equally ridiculous. I can't stand it anymore and just pre-ordered.
-
so no bonus tracks on the original double cd, hm...

Yes Topspin were a fiasco in terms of delivery, but here in the UK anyway the Ram deluxe was about half the amazon price. Interestingly U2 do brilliant deals - in terms of value U2 offer fantastic member only deals for their subscribers that put Paul to shame. Kinda makes me wish I was a bigger U2 fan! http://www.u2.com/service/subscribe

World premiere of the cd on Chris Carter's Breakfast with The Beatles (Los Angeles) this morning. He played Blackbird fron the bonus San Francisco disc...sounds great!

I noticed that too. It was $90 at first, then $140, now $156. What is going on with this guy? I want it, but won't buy it unless it comes WAY down below $100. Sheeesh! RIDICULOUS!!
