Paul's Past Tours— Reflections

1989 - Three nights at the Forum in Los Angeles! Opening night was awesome, Beatles songs were great, and on the second night, Stevie Wonder came on stage and sang Ebony and Ivory!
I was at that Stevie Wonder show, also! I believe we'd heard a rumour that Stevie was there, or somebody I knew saw him, I forget now. So when Paul did "Ebony & Ivory" in the main set, we were wondering if they would sing "What's That You're Doing" when Stevie came out??!! Nope - "Ebony" again. Was still very cool, tho. I also remember that show because during the guitar jam in "Sgt Pepper" at the end, Robbie, Hamish and Paul were all pushing against each other so hard that Paul actually fell over, onto his back, legs in the air! He was fine but it was scary for a second to see him hit the stage. Other favorite tour memories for me are all of the 1979 UK shows that I went to. Cherished, those are.
You are right about Paul falling at that LA show! The whole arena gasped! I was amazed at how he lept back onto his feet not using his hands or anything. Also, I recall there were some feedback sound problems and McCartney motioning to his sound people about it.

1976 - WOA tour concert at MSG. Just absolutely in awe of seeing McCartney live the first time. Wings songs sounded so much "heavier" live than recording. Remember the crowd going nuts when McCartney started "Yesterday" 1989 - Once again saw McCartney at MSG. I loved "Flowers In The Dirt" so I was really happy to hear these songs live, cool that he opened with "Figure of Eight". Loved the "Sgt. Pepper" jam, one of the highlights of the night to me. This concert I had the best seats ever for McCartney. 1993 - saw McCartney in Charlotte NC, this was the concert telecast by FOX and had the infamous "Robbie's Bit". (Paul Is Live). Loved "Hope and Deliverance" so I was quite happy hearing it that night. Had lawn "seats" because I was away on vacation when tickets went on sale. Sound was good but thank goodness for monitors. Not positive but this may have been the last concert Linda McCartney ever did in the US. That's all for now, will reflect on other shows later.

I've only been able to see Paul twice in concert, (soon to be three in July!) but out of those two, Detroit in 2011 will always be most special to me. I took my mom to this concert and that was the first time she had been able to see Paul live since she saw The Beatles in Detroit in 1964. Just being there with her to experience this concert was amazing. The look on her face when Paul walked out on stage, and the way her eyes got a bit teary when he started to sing "All My Loving" is something I will never forget. We both had a wonderful time and she still talks about this concert.

I've seen/heard Paul 3 times, I guess I'm luchy since many people have seen him only once, or not at all. 2002 - It was great, I've never seen him, and I was full of expectations, of course people chanted every song, even those that aren't so expected now (Band on the Run, BITUSSR, All My Loving, LMRI, TLAWR), the highlight of the night being Every Night, as everyone lit their lighters along the whole song. It was incredible and unique, as Paul has stated himself. Of course it was very exciting, as it was not only the first time I saw him, but it was my first concert ever. 2010 - 8 years later, Macca came back, and I didn't believe it, we got the tickets, and were lucky, since they were gone in half hour. It was great, and I still remember it, even when it's the only concert I didn't have a seat, but it didn't matter, cause there were songs I've never heard live, and only that one time, like Helter Skelter, Highway, Letting Go, Venus and Mars, Two of Us, and a unique tune he made for this special ocassion, Shine a Light in Mexico. 2012 - And just when I thought I'd never see Paul again, he decided to return to my homeland, in the giant Estadio Azteca. Another unforgettable show, with exclusive jewels, Junior's Farm, The Night Before, Hope of Deliverance, Every Night again, and just like that time, the lighters were present and on, the difference being this time, Paul played it exclusively in Mexico because people started lighting on and off since the beginning of the show (in 2002, it was a set list standard). Of course the stadium went crazy with Live and Let Die, with the classic pyrotechnics going up crazily behind the stage, and bringing climax to every member of the audience. Well, those are some memories of the Paul's concerts I've attended.

I remember the documentary Paul made for the BBC when he was recording Flowers In The Dirt and preparing for his tour. He said he was determined to make an album he was pleased with because he didn't want to spend ages on the road playing songs from an album he didn't like! The approach of showcasing current material survived for the next tour but since then it!s sadly been mainly nostalgia all the way.

how true. I've seen videos where he has said he didn't want to get bored playing the same songs all the time. Guess that one flew right out the window.

We all have songs we would like to hear that he never plays for one reason or another. "In My Life", "I Feel Fine" and "Help" are three songs I'd love to hear but he's never played them at a concert I've attended.
Paul sort of did Help in 1990 when he did the Strawberry Fields/Help/Give Peace A Chance tribute to John medley. That is probably all you will ever get when it comes to Paul singing Help. I did not see Paul in Wings, but I have seen him in 1990, 1993, 2002. 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 and will be seeing Paul this year. There is nothing like the first Paul show, nothing like being in the front row, nothing like getting the wink and nod from Paul, etc. I have so many wonderful memories of my Paul adventures. No regrets.

It's one of the things that makes Paul's concerts so special. 2, 3, sometimes 4 generations together enjoying Paul's music and having the time of their lives!

If you had to choose just one moment/memory from any McCartney concert you have ever attended, which would you choose as the best and why? My favourite memory from a McCartney concert would have to be when I saw him play "Hey Jude" the first time I saw him live. The crowd and atmosphere were amazing and it was just so cool to finally get the chance to hear one of my all-time favourite Beatles songs performed live.
-
those flash bombs going off during Live and Let Die in 1976 at the Boston Garden as heard on Wings Over America.....
-
I loved all the times I saw McCartney live. The two that will always stand out and mean a lot to me are seeing Wings Over America in 1976, which was stunning, and seeing McCartney perform in New Mexico in 1993. Nothing can replace those for me.

Him being bored playing them is not the same as you being bored hearing them!
-
From what I read here and in reviews, Paul is not bored playing his set lists. In fact, he is very enthused, and the audience feeds off of that. For my part, unless he comes to my neck of the woods, I am not all that enthused. The set list is set by the second show more or less, and is the same throughout. Yeah, there are minor changed in cities with multiple shows, but we all know what the changes will me. That's cool.
