Elizabeth Taylor fans... On the big screen: Cleopatra Celebrating this film's 50th anniversary, limited screenings begin on the 22nd of May.
This afternoon, I had the pleasure of seeing the lovely Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra on the big screen...sooooo cool!!! Cleopatra's procession into Rome was AWESOME on the big screen!!! I never cease to be amazed at the vast amount of people that attend the screenings of classic films. I was astonished to see how many men were in attendance at the theater - all these years later and Liz is still considered stunningly beautiful...LOVE it!!!
-
For those that may be interested... Limited screenings of four classic Spielberg films: Jaws (1975) - Begins 2nd June Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - Begins 9th June E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - Begins 16th June Schindler's List (1993) - Begins 23rd June We are looking forward to Jaws and Schindler's List.
-
Today... The Enchanted Cottage (11:15 AM EDT) Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young
Triplets Love Paul:
LOVE is all that matters in this wonderful film which allows us to see that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is one of those films that is frequently overlooked and often underrated. A valuable gem that is well worth seeing.
Desire Me (1:00 PM EDT) Greer Garson and Robert Mitchum Not a favorite film for most Garson fans, but I have always enjoyed it. I like the cinematography and the way in which the darkness emphasizes the heavy decisions the main character faces and the dark tone of the film in general. Certainly not a must see, but worth the time if you have it to spare.

This afternoon we had an opportunity to see Jaws on the big screen - very, very cool!!! The scene where Richard Dreyfuss dives into the water to check out the abandoned boat......

I just watched 5 minutes of it and she had 3 boyfriends in that time and at least 2 of them were married! I turned it back over to The Voice!

The film was about how women especially in the 20's & 30's had no avenues for business success except to 'sleep up' . Stanwyck did a brilliant job in showing the mental changes and compromises she had to make and the price she paid to do so. Powerful and brilliant message even today.

In that case, the few minutes that I watched make more sense now.

Hey Sur When I think that I might have some time to watch a film I check the tcm.com/schedule site and it gives the schedule plus a synopsis of each film. That's when i decide if i'm interested enough to watch and how i chose to watch Baby Face. It really helps because I had never heard of the movie before and it was so powerful don't think i'll ever forget it. Cheers

Big new Richard Burton book is out comprised of his copious journals. Had heard he's a good writer. It's a wonder he could write, drunk as he apparently was much of the time.

Essentials Jr. has once again returned with a new season of programing which began on Sunday, the 2nd of June. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce younger family members and friends to the joys of classic film. Tonight at 8:00 PM EDT: To Kill a Mockingbird Gregory Peck Lawyer, Atticus Finch was the role of a lifetime for Gregory Peck and he delivered it brilliantly! Peck earned a well-deserved Oscar for his efforts in this must see, classic film Essential. This is a wonderful film adaptation from a great book, one that every young teenager should see. My children first saw this film at twelve years-old and it instantly became a classic favorite, making the book a must read...now that is the power of a brilliant performance! Enjoy!
