With so many posts about the 'New' album its hard to keep up so this info may have already been posted....... There are 12 tracks on the 'New' album, the title track being track 6. The shortest track is the opening song which lasts 2:39 whilst the longest song is the final track which lasts 4:36 Mick Ronson is the producer of the 'New' single.
On iTunes the Deluxe Edition of "NEW" you can preorder...and get the song "NEW" for free...contains 14 tracks, the last of which lasts 6:15. Not sure why he just doesn't include all 14 songs on "regular" album issue and not make us buy the extra two in a deluxe-edition form.
In a word.........MONEY. Thanks for the info. I don't do 'downloads' and will no doubt buy the 'physical deluxe' edition. But there are so many albums that I have to buy this autumn that 'New' is in a queuing system so hopefully it will have dropped in price by the time I get round to buying it.
I'd venture to say that a sizeable percentage of McCartney fans doesn't do downloads. Thus, there's little chance of the song becoming a hit if even the fans won't buy it. Not judging, just stating fact. I'm sure Paul expects that it's the album that has the best chance anyway, or if a single is going to be big, it's not this one. In the Philly radio interview yesterday, he was rather offhand about putting this song out now, while it's still summer, just because it sounds summery and bright.

I don't buy downloads at all and i much prefer the physical CD, but the last time Paul had a CD single was when Chaos was out. I believe that apart from the odd charity single CD singles are no more, more's the pity. I guess the problem these days is that most listen to music on computers, ipods and mp3 players, a decent sounding hi fi set up is a dying thing, sad really. I know vinyl has made a bit of a comeback, but a proper sound system is rarer to see today, unfortunately.

It's an awkward moment, for sure. That compressed, in-your-face sound of MP3s is what young people have come to expect, so they think it sounds good. I accept it as "good enough" for the sake of convenience, but it's no match for CDs and especially vinyl. Problem is that new vinyl albums are ridiculously expensive, something like $23 for "New".

I dont do downloads as a rule & have gone back to vinyl in a big way this year, however if there is to be no physical release, why couldn't we have say a 4 track EP style download for say £3. This song reminds me of when Hope Of Deliverance came out, I heard it, thought it's Ok ...lightweight but catchy, etc. then I got the 4 Track CD single that just happened to have 3 cracking non album tracks......those were the days, shame they've gone it seems.

Haven't been able to stop listening to "New" since yesterday morning - classic, vintage McCartney-pop. Feel-wise, I hear elements of "Revolver" (Got to Get You Into My Life) / "Sgt. Pepper" (Penny Lane) / "RAM" (Dear Boy), with a little Beach Boys influence thrown in at the vocal breakdown near the end. Really looking forward to the new record!

In 10 years time their probably wont be a physical album at all. Music has just become another commodity you can buy these days, i don't think it's as special as it used to be.

Who said there was to be no physical release? (that sounded kinky!) Amazon has the CD for pre-order.

No physical release (so to speak) of the CD single is what we're saying, or am I wrong? I can't find one, but if there is, please provide a link. We know there were many extra songs recorded, so this would be very good news! Otherwise, the lack of "B-sides" on a CD or in iTunes definitely dampens the chances of people buying it right away, since it appears to be only an album track at this point.

I thought I'd posted this before but I can't find it, so please forgive me if this is a repeat: In less than 36 hours, "New" had already entered the Mediabase Adult Contemporary airplay chart, with 118 spins logged already: http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/allaboutcountry/Charts.asp?format=A1R Clearly in this format, at least, it's taking off. Other Macca singles in the past 20 years or so took a week or more to edge onto these charts. My guess is we'll see it charting shortly on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) chart as well. These are the 2 radio formats most friendly to older artists.

CDs are superior to .mp3 files? I honestly wasn't aware of that. Thanks.

21st Century Paul:
Well, after some listens here is what I think about New. The "good news" and the "bad news" Good news: It's pure Paul, he is not trying to be someone else or so, "Pizza and Fairy Tales" again. It is the kind of the song that only Paul can do (or so...). For me the best part is the "Oooohhh", pure genius, you can play it at the piano and think "Why did not anyone write that before?", because it's seems kind of a obvious and simple melody after you hear it. Bad news: I don't like the bridge much, I think I'm hearing some autotune or similar there (only in the bridge thought) and that doesn't help cause I don't like that, and it makes think there could be more in the album... IMO it's better than Fine Line, From A Lover To Friend and maybe than Dance Tonight. Too soon too know, cause now I'm influenced by the excitement that it is a new song. And Paul's voice sound strained in "aaaaalll my life" but for the rest is great. Maybe the strain there is deliberate.... it wouldn't be the first time Paul strains deliberately his voice, you know After all I'm happy cause I expected something worse than this. But I'm almost sure there will be several songs better than this on the album. I'm editing this post again, it seems I can't stop talking bout the song... It's one of those Paul songs that looks as if they were easy to sing but they're not cause of the melody going up and down all the time except for the bridge. As for being a hit, even if Paul had written something like Ode To Joy I wouldn't believe it could be a hit either.
Yes, it does sound a little strained here and there on some high notes....except the falsetto...curiously.
Well, Paul likes so much to do that, the "ooo" falsetto, that I guess he will like to have now a song where the "ooo" is the chorus, not a filler after the melody. The only one I can remind where that happens too is Girls' School.

Actually, not so curious. I'm assuming you're talking about the "Oooh-wooh-ohh-ooh" bit which goes through a thing called the vocal break which produces strangely clean sounds but is more difficult to control. I've known singers who have had colds which completely screws up the top end of their normal vocal range but still sound fine when they go through the break.
Yes, I kind of agree. When there is a cold or so the most damaged part is the highest part before the "break/passagio/bridge". But this is different cause Paul is singing falsetto not high notes higher than the vocal break in a natural non-falsetto way (not very "natural" I know, cause it's not easy to do it, lol).
-
One thing for sure, this is not a single that sounds like what's on the charts today. The song hasn't been choosed because to fit what's "on" or to go with today's trends... And also is for sure that the album is not gonna be a long long album as I expected. Quite the oppossite, a quite short album, pretty much like the Beatles short albums... That opens the possibility of a release of YET ANOTHER ALBUM quite soon... Maybe next year or in 2015. Cause if Paul has written 50 songs I guess he will release more than 14 one way or another, pretty much like happened with Chaos and then MAF.

RMartinez:
Actually, the only thing similar between NEW and Got To Get You Into My Life, is the beat. Nothing else, really. And a lot of songs use that beat! Like GETTING BETTER.
Paul once said that his favourite beat was the kind of Wouldn't It Be Nice and it looks it's something like that.
-
ewanme:
remarkable vocals really, for 71 year old
My favourite "young" mainstream singers are Adam Lambert and Bruno Mars.. and honestly I don't think they could sing this better than Paul.

... And, to keep himself challenged, to keep from getting bored, he likes to "challenge" himself...and that's why he added "Benefit Of Mr. Kite."
Then he could do Bohemian Rhapsody. If he wants challenges.... Yesterday I thought he could have done "Kite" kind of preparing the band to play live something similar to "New" with all that unusual instruments, you know...
