Where Does New sit in the ranks of his last 3 LP's
-
Wow, this Thread is "all over the place" as far as all the replies and opinions. To each his own, but here are some of my opinions based on the replies: *To say a song/album isn't good because it doesn't get played on the radio is crazy in my opinion. Music radio play is dominated by the younger artists and has little to do with quality. Paul is considered a "classic, old rocker so he only gets played consistently by the classic rock stations. That is why you mainly hear his Beatle and Wings' Hits on the radio. *Personally I'm more interested in Paul's complete albums compared to one individual song. In my opinion, all of Paul's albums have been good to very good albums since My Brave Face (Yes, I include Driving Rain which a good number of fans don't like so much). In general, I think these albums since My Brave Face have had 4 or 5 top album tracks (good albums) to 7 or 8 top album tracks(very good albums) *I find it very hard to compare one song (i.e. New) to many of the other songs listed on this thread. I can't really say that "New" is better or behind Put It There, Somedays, Calico Skies, Too Much Rain, Jenny Wren, Ever Present Past, Mr. Bellamy, Hope of Deliverence etc. What's great about Paul's music is that so many of the songs are such high quality but at the same time different. * I will say that "New" is more like Paul's 66 or 67 Beatles music (with Beach Bou Harmony) than any Paul Solo song I can think of. If the rest of the album is generally good to very good, New (the song) might give Paul higher sales than most or all of these previous albums. *I think 20, 30, 40 years from now, Paul's Solo career will be viewed much higher than it is today. Because he is old, he doesn't get the airplaythat he got in his heyday. I really believe that the overall quality of Paul's solo albums since My Brave Face has been consistently very good. In the end, the younger generations will find these songs and they will become more known. It is fair to say that most of these albums have a couple of clunkers, but the majority of songs are good to very good and they all sound different. *To me, listening to Paul's albums depend on my mood. Certain times when I'm in a quiet, introspective mood, I find Chaos and Creation to be a great album. I like every song. There are other times when I'm more in a upbeat, rockier mood which would lead me to playing the other albums like Flaming Pie, My Brave Face, Driving Rain etc. *And yes there are a handful songs from these albums I don't like and will skip. Examples off the top of my head are Gratitude and Nod My Head from MAF and Really Love You from Flaming Pie. Fortunately, they are very seldom which is why I like Paul so much. Can't wait for the album called NEW.
