I think Driving rain is totally underated. As said , his bass playing is superb, and "From a Lover to a Friend" is one of his best ballads ever . I also think Press To Play is underated.
I think DR is underrated also, kind of a guitar oriented record IMO. Loved songs like "Lonely Road" (great vocal), "About You" (really rocks) "Rinse The Raindrops" (experimental but will admit it could use some trimming of a couple of minutes), "Driving Rain" (the 1,2,3,4,5 lyric does not spoil this snappy upbeat song for me) and From A Lover To A Friend" (beautiful ballad). Songs like "Magic" (which I assume is about Linda) "Heather" which is basically a pretty cool instrumental upbeat rocker and the Indian influenced "Riding To Jaipur" are addtional favorites. IMO - this is a record that you need to give time to let it grown on you and think most people will like it if they give it a chance.

Driving Rain is a great album, one of my favorites of Paul's post-Beatles career. This board is the only place I ever hear criticism of it; reviews were all good to very good. His bass playing on it is amazing. Some very emotional songs. Even a really cool jam.

I love most of "Driving Rain." His stuff really gets picked apart by nitpickers but not only them. It's fun to try to deconstruct what he meant to say in the lyrics, the main theme. Often it's mostly a mood rather than intellectual meaning, and often a euphoria such as sparked his lighthouse shine on song and sun is shining song on EA. So many of his are feel good. Then you have the serious introspective sometimes deeply sad songs, like some on "Chaos" for example. The happy ones out number the sad, which is one reason for his popularity. Yet I especially appreciate his compassionate song outings like "Lady Madonna" and "Let it Be" and "Long and Winding Road," and "Too Much Rain"-- he empathizes with humanity's plight channeling the universal into the personal, in such a deeply felt way.
