Didn't the whole idea of bonus tracks come from the 3 different formats in the 80's with CD's greater running time they'd put extra tracks that werent on Vinyl or Cassette? As for putting all of the tracks onto one CD I expect that it's an artistic point. I mean how many of Paul's albums would've been considered better if they had the fat trimmed and they came in at a lean BOTR style 9 tracks per album? Driving Rain goes on and on and on...
I used to collect Elvis records, and I learned that, even in the '60s, there were various releases of his albums via LPs, 45rpms, EPs. 78rpms, reel-to-reel and on and on and on.
And let's not even talk about the shenanigans that Capitol, Vee Jay, United Artists, and Tollie et al engaged in in 1964!
