Paul, Maida Vale, BBC 6 Music & Radio 2: 16th Oct 2013

Sounds pretty rough on the vocals...

But just 3 songs of the "new" album??? I wanna hear "Alligator" "On my way to work" "Early days" "Looking at her"!!! Paul stop to be "old", now you are "new"!

I was actually expecting about six tunes. But after hearing the album, I hear why it'll be a challenge to do many of them live with all the stupid production fluff. Early Days would be beautiful live, but I don't think his voice will support it live. I'm surprised "Everybody Out There" wasn't played..."I Can Bet" and "Alligator" would be my next two suggestions.

I liked the Peter Gunn theme put into COMING UP! From hearing Paul on the Living Room Tour interview and then these videos, sounds like he has a slight cold. Still, not bad at all. COMING UP may become the NEW Tour opener!?? Maybe, that would be cool.

http://music.yahoo.com/news/paul-mccartney-plays-intimate-live-set-bbc-155032048-rolling-stone.html Paul McCartney got back to where he once belonged today by playing an intimate mid-morning set at the BBC's tiny Maida Vale studios, where the Beatles recorded several early sessions.

Just watching the 6Music gig on the BBC red button...with the sound turned down because I'm listening to the Radio 2 gig on the Jo Whiley show! Bit bizarre but the 6Music show is on a constant loop for the rest of the evening, so I'll turn the sound up later. Noticed Simon Pegg in the audience (actor who's been in lots of things but for an international audience he was Scotty in the recent Star Trek remakes). I think there are a couple of other actors in the audience but I can't think of their names.

Watching Paul's show on the red button just now. Sounds great . Pauls vocals sound really strong , even better than his US appearances I reckon. A couple of questions I have .... 1. In an audience of around 140, how does Simon Pegg and the young guy from Liverpool who did the youtube cover of "New" manage to get a ticket?... 2. Is the radio 2 gig also going to be on the red button ? - if so when ?
-
Great way to sell records, murder your classics live on Radio. Gee, Graham Norton is gonna be a car crash. Why does this always happen in the UK!?!

hey bulldog:
I can't complain, as I was lucky enough to be one of the Twitter winners. I was very excited when the tweet came through; I'm not a one for winning competitions. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. I'm in for the Radio 2 session.
Have a brilliant time, well done! It will feel so intimate, what a great memory. Send him a kiss from me
Thank you for the nice message, Lisalou; had a lovely time. I was at the second, Radio 2 show - by which point he seemed to be in relatively good voice, despite what people here are saying about the first show. I very nearly didn't get in, despite having won tickets as part of the Twitter competition - it took a bit of battling to convince people I was supposed to be there - but I wrote a little blog about the gig itself, should anyone be interested: www.mostlydavidephgrave.blogspot.co.uk Now BED.

Just checked out a couple of clips and that was my thinking exactly! He just doesn't seem to think straight when it comes to his radio/tv appearances in the UK. Any sane person would look at their live repertoire and only include songs in the set list that they can sing. He has further trashed his reputation in his home country. Clearly, he only has regard for the Americas. Yes, yes he is 71 and we can't expect him to still sing like he was 25. I get that. Seems to me he thinks like a 90 year old!!

The radio 2 gig is going to be broadcast on the red button on 7th November. And we can wonder how Rob Brydon managed to get a ticket...

harsh! I listened up to Band on the Run and he sounded fine to me. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Things We Said Today. then again, I'm from America which makes a big difference apparently?

Yes these live performances aren't going to help push the album, might just put people off. Also he should have played more off the album as i thought this was the purpose of these gigs?
