I said it before and I´ll say it again : The setlists send out a strong signal that Paul doesn`t believe in his musical output of the past 30-40 years. This is a viscious circle which leads to ever declining sales of his new material, because why should people be bothered to listen to it when Paul can`t be bothered to play it? Other big names like Dylan, Bowie and even the Rolling Stones haven`t stuck to the same classics tour after tour. 2/3 of Paul`s setlist is from the sixties. The remaining 4+ decades are squeezed into 1/3 . And on top of it almost half of the songs are the same tour after tour. How can someone who`s achieved so much be so insecure ? And why do all that promotion for new albums, when they are never heard of again. Isn`t there ONE good song on: Flaming Pie, Driving Rain, Chaos, London Town, Venus and Mars, Speed of Sound, Back to the egg, Flowers, Off the ground, Ram, McCartney 2 Wild life Red Rose Press to Play Memory Pipes of peace ...to appear on the setlist ? For sure he can`t play songs from all his albums. But what does it say about Paul as an artist when the vast majority of his albums are simply ignored by himself ? If an alien from Mars followed Paul`s tours from 89 onwards, he`d come to the conclusion that this musician once belonged to a band called The Beatles and after that did Band On The Run PERIOD.
Very simple answer, 90-95% of McCartney's concert audience does not give a darn about anthing he has done outside the Beatles with the possible exception of BOTR. I would also wager that BOTR is probably the last thing non-Beatle most of these people have bought.McCartney ignoringing the majority of his albums says that he is resigned to the fact that basically nobody in the crowd cares about any of his other music so let the good times roll and lets live in the past. McCartney playing four songs from "New" is just basically keeping him and his band from being bored by playing some music they have not played 100 times before - lol.
As long as Paul's ticket-prices remain as costly as they are, you can bank on a Beatles-heavy show.
Very true but still disappointing since McCartney does not need the money. Imagine if he "challenged" himself artistically and did acoustic type show in smaller venues (like Springsteen did years ago) with say a 50-50 setlist.

And here is a video showing Paul's entrance:
Plus these videos by another fan: http://www.youtube.com/user/bbngcsnb/videosI can't believe nobody stood up for his entrance! I guess they really are more subdued in Japan!
Yeah no kidding! When the lights go down at that point in the stage entrance, I am standing...ready to scream, then maybe cry a little...
I guess this is why he only goes there every ten years or so...

I thought this topic was to talk about his Japan concert, but about all I read is complaints about the setlist. Isn't there another thread for that? I would love to hear feedback from fans who attended the show!

Mod Post: Yes Indeed there is: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=86461 Members are usually good about keeping such critique separate from Feedback on the shows themselves, but it's been a while and these shows are reaching new audiences that might not know how things have gone here in the past. So yes, please leave this topic for recollections, personal reviews, photographs. video clips etc specific to the Osaka concerts. Your views on Paul's set-list selections and suggestions for changes are welcome in the thread highlighted above. Thanks Martin

Loving the jacket. What time did it start? Quite early?
Frankie, My soundcheck advice email lists the concert start as 7pm. Not sure if that is actually the case... R
That's early! Have fun, man. You deserve it!!

The second show should be halfway through now.

Japanese teenagers are like teenager anywhere. Listen to CHEAP TRICK AT BUDOKAN. That audience is NOT subdued. However, cultures are different around the world, and public expression of emotions vary from place to place. Also, Paul's audience is no longer made up of essentially 12 year old screaming girls. That could account for the behavior. McCartney would have to be a pretty shallow person to say, " I won't go there often because they don't scream for me."

Any pictures of the official merchandise items being sold in Osaka?

You make a great point, although full-grown adults in the U.S. seem to still go bonkers when Paul hits the stage. Still, I recall seeing footage of one of my favorite bands in Japan back in '91, Fishbone. Those kids went nuts.

Apparently the show tonight was identical to last night. I always thought Paul at least changed two songs if he does more than one night in a city? He's bound to for Tokyo.

The tour programme and the VIP lanyard are pink. I would love to see pictures of the merchandise being offered in Japan. Maybe the "Happi coats" (kimonos) with the NEW symbols are available? In the meantime, here are pictures of the first Osaka soundcheck and concert: http://blog.kouchu.info/2013/11/SoundCheck20131111.html http://blog.kouchu.info/2013/11/Paul20131111.html
