"New" album lyrics

Oh...I didn't bother to read all this thread, I got too impatient-- he DID provide lyrics to those two bonus tracks! What a dingbat I am! (smacks self in the head) No wonder I'm just a big joke here That's what it feels like, sometimes. When there's "no reply"
Sorry, I wasn't ignoring you, I just didn't see your post on the 3rd. I've been here less often lately, so some things have gotten by me. I'm not sure what that "haven't got a life" part is really supposed to mean either!

Yes, the booklet design is not very reader-friendly... I've got a question regarding the lyrics -- There but for the grace of God go you and I -- what does this mean?
Yes, I would agree with Susy that it's about empathizing with people less fortunate. Paul has altered the expression, though, which is usually just "There but for the grace of God go I," or even just "There but for the grace of God."

Thanks a lot Susy and favoritething, i think i got it now!

Also I think it means that "There but for the Grace of God go, you and I..." applies to us all. Not just the least of us, all of us go by the Grace of God, no matter the status or circumstance of individuals. We are all in this together. But yes to help the less fortunate if we can, to be part of something bigger than ourselves. The part of 'knowing what it is like to not have a life, or a friend.' Everyone has come to this point at some time, or they will. Even Sir Paul. I am presently there, and realize after years of experiencing what I do not want in life, that there is a place for me to do good works in the world. It just was not with the people I called friends in the past. There are people of like minded ideals who want to do Good and I want that too. The 'brightest objects in the sky.' The Stars, and we are all Stars. Love that song! (Everybody Out There.) p.s.> sorry if I have somewhat misquoted lyrics, but I am in a hurry.

Just went through and re-listened to the album, reading the lyrics, and I found a few errors. Pretty minor, but I wanted it to be as good as possible, though I didn't include every "yeah" and background vocal, etc. Hey Kittay, I think your explanation does help complete the picture! Thanks!

From Queenie Eye I can relate to the lyrics but especially this part: Life?s a game, rags from riches Dogs and bitches hunt for fame Difficult to know which way to turn Lay the blame on the snitches Wicked witches fan the flame Careful what you touch in case you burn The part about dogs and bitches is obvious. (I wish he had not compared dogs to losers though. But I get the analogy and know he loves dogs.) The part about 'wicked witches fan the flames.' I feel so strongly about because I feel as if I have been misinterpreted/played in my life the past few years by some cunning little witches. I can only think that someone with some real insight can see through all the games. Just sad people are like that, but maybe it is for a reason. Although I can say I did learn a lot about myself. I have made some changes to myself, of my own accord. I feel better about myself now. More grounded. NEW. That IS Life though, it is a game.

The lyric (as printed in the booklet with the CD) is: Life's a game. Rags from riches. Dogs and bitches. Hunt for fame. Difficult to know which way to turn. Lay the blame. On the snitches. Wicked witches. Fan the flame. Careful what you touch in case you burn. Did you just edit your post above? Because that is not what was there before.

^^ I just copied it from the previous lyrics. Thanks for the correction. But the theme is the same. To be honest, there is that saying again, I don't listen to New. I have only listened to it very little. I think it is a masterpiece and it is just superior and wonderful and all that, I cannot explain it to anyone. It is just too much to listen to for me. * well yes, I can explain. It is written in the lyrics above. * p.s.> I was going from memory then copied the lyrics form the previous page, yes I changed them.

Since this is a thread on the lyrics of songs from NEW, I figured posting a lyrics video for "New" would be on topic. I spent the three-day weekend we had for Columbus Day driving around parts of Vermont and New Hampshire for a little project. I'd just gotten the 6-song sampler for Paul's new album, NEW, and was taken by the song "New" as it was catchy, an earworm song. I decided to create a lyric video using words from the song that I took photos of from signs, products, whatever I could. It took me a long time to crop photos, find the time to finish the video, and do my best to match them up to the lyrics as Paul sings them (which I fail at, lol), but finally I can unveil my work. Smile Hopefully you'll enjoy it!

You are lying with the girl That was lying with her boy That was lying with the girl That was lying with her boy That was lying with the girl You lie down make yourself united The universe is in your bed What a society in one girl

Did he write that before John Lennon and John pinched it from him? NO! The guy was born after the Beatles song was written! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgi_Gospodinov

It's an intended reference to the Beatles' song. My point was that kids these days dont recognise such references...
