Funny how in 1979 it was considered a "cover" when he played a Beatles song.
-
This has been discussed here ad nauseum. He plays The Beatles and still sells out arenas and stadiums worldwide. If he didn't he would still sell out clubs. I for one, would love to see him in a club sized setting, but it doesn't rake in millions like the big tours.

Eric Clapton has been opening his recent concerts with several different songs: "Pretending," "Hello, Old Friend," "Don't Go To Strangers" and "Tell The Truth." It CAN be done, Paul McCartney.

Yes it can and I love to have him open with "That Was Me" just one night - lol.

Which he did play...at clubs...in 2007.

It's such a nice biographical song, just like "Early Days." Both songs just happen to be Paul rightfully claiming that his perspective is the most valid.

Also at Amoeba Records and Highline Ballroom too!

...and that Amoeba performance was nominated for a Grammy.

Personally think Paul has got to that stage in his career where is he happy with pleasing the crowd, and prefers to stick to this formula. I wouldn't now expect to hear any obscure song or one where its gonna be a struggle to sing, but he could still bring in ones that he has performed in the last 10 years or so.

I'm curious: What was the new song? The only other curve-ball at that show was "In Liverpool," which Paul recorded in 1987(?).
