Coming Soon... Recommend and Discuss Theater/Cinema Films

Recently saw Mama Mia, Let I Be, Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Another Country all were great!

Saw "Enough Said" again with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, James Gandolfini, Catherine Keaner, and Toni Collette-- a charming gently funny perceptive film that showcases casual Southern California informal ways, amusingly so in the case of Julia Louis- Dreyfus and Gandolfini whom I associate more with being New Yorkers. I noticed some beauty in the middle aged touches on their faces and forms. Beauty in the sort of worn aspects, mild creases, faint wrinkles, etc. which denote character and experience. One thinks of the very young as looking like gods and goddesses, but much is admirable in older persons' looks, too.

I think my favorite live production was Peter Pan, with Cathy Rigby. It was very faithful to the televised production on TV with Mary Martin.
-
"Live production" I thought this was about movies...oh, you mean movies made into plays? Some of that seems like the "dumbing down of Broadway" to me A lot of it does.

I certainly won't see "American Sniper" (didn't appeal to me, anyway) since seeing a snippet from that movie, of Cooper's character shooting down a child from afar Killing a child !

Me too Susy. I know it goes on, but I'm not going to pay money to watch it! Heartbreaking to see how children are used, abused and mistreated the world over...

I just found out that there's a theater that has $3 movies! Need to see what's playing soon.

I saw it. Powerful true story. Great acting. Anyone who had someone they knew/in their family in WWII should watch it. The war would NOT have been won without this guy. We owe him a lot.

Has anyone ever been to dinner theater? I was once, for Cats & it was fun.
-
^ We have never taken part in a dinner theater experience, but imagine it would be enjoyable. I am happy to know that you had fun! Two weeks back, we saw Woman in Gold, very well done! Now looking forward to seeing The Age of Adaline.

Nothing all that interesting coming out yet.

Hot Pursuit starring Reese Witherspoon and Sophia Vergara might be amusing, comes out soon. I just saw "Wild" on DVD (it was wild !) and am fixing to see "Cake" which looks rather harrowing, and "Still Alice"--I want to see Bird Man again--mystified why it won Best Picture, but I've only seen it once. There was something intriguing and different about it. For one thing, ironic that Michael Keaton was the first "Batman" and then he pops up again in "Birdman" seeking a big comeback like his character did in the film. I haven't seen anyone remark on that, although possibly someone did. Seems obvious to me.

Movies are just blah so far.

"Still Alice" is good, well acted and well made, but the novel was so outstanding that the book outshines the movie, methinks. Am going to see "Mr. Turner" with Timothy Spall which will provide an interesting contrast to "Big Eyes" which was laudable, but the cheesy commercial art in the latter will really seem inferior in comparison. Looked real 1950's style though ("Big Eyes" paintings) which does have its charm. Tim Burton usually choose much weirder out there subjects than "Big Eyes" which was only mildly quirky. I love Amy Adams, she never disappoints, and Christof Waltz was fearless in playing a bad guy (has been that before, has he not?).

Jane Asher & her daughter, Katie are starring in "The Gathered Leaves" at the Park Theatre in London's West End starting July 15th. Wish I could go see them....

In recent Hugh Grant DVD "The Rewrite" Hugh Grant's character, a screenwriter, says he wishes he could write songs like Paul McCartney. Don't we all. "Laggies" with Keira Knightley, Chloe Grace Moritz and Sam Rockwell is quite enjoyable. A newish Keira flick seen on DVD (twice) yesterday. She's one of my faves.

Just found out there's a movie theater that only charges $2 but you have to wait a month or more before they get newer movies.
