Chaos and Creation or McCartney III?
-
Plays almost every instrument in the album. Teams up with no one to write the songs. Records the album at home. The two McCartney's? Yup. But also Caos. The more I think of it, the more I feel Chaos and Creation is the spiritual successor to McCartney II. Even then style of acoustic guitars and soft sounding music harkened back to McCarney. It is McCartney III in disguise. Any thoughts? Update: I can see what people are saying and I now feel I was wrong. What I am trying to say is that Chaos is closer to III then any other album.

McCartney I and II it's all him, maybe a background vocal from Linda. But several songs on Chaos have other musicians playing, plus he used another Producer, so I have to say no. It's closer than any others to being McCartney III, but it isn't.

Personally, I find their styles quite different. Chaos is more polished than McCartney or McCartney II. The fact Chaos had an outside producer also makes a difference. There have actually been quite a few albums where he plays most of the instruments on the majority of tracks (Flaming Pie, for example), so I didn't know why they made such a big deal about him doing it on Chaos. Presumably for simple publicity.

A case could be made for Electric Arguments being McCartney III also, except for Production duties. I believe he plays almost everything on that too.

I can't see a McCartneyIII, although there are albums with similarities. "McCartney" came after The Beatles, "McCartneyII" came after Wings. I'd love a "Paul McCartney" album, a double album of course...

As Hendrix Ibsen said, 'McCartney I' and 'II' came after a big process in Paul's life. We could say that 'Chaos' came after Linda's death, but there's 'Run Devil Run' and 'Driving Rain' before... IMO, 'Chaos' is Paul doing all the things he has to do to make a big album. You have the ideas, then don't do it alone. Call a producer, call musicians... like in 'Tug Of War' and 'Flaming Pie', his greatest two solo albums.

McCartney II was basically all improvised, apart from Waterfalls (and possibly One Of These Days') 'Chaos' had all its songs written is advance so its really a totally different kind of project. Maybe 'Electric Arguments' is more similar in nature to McCartney II though.
