FourFiveSeconds- new collab. with Rihanna, Kanye and Paul
-
RMartinez:
But it is quite certain, if Paul decided to collaborate with Justin Bieber, no doubt many here would suddenly hail him as the brilliant musical talent of the new century, a visionary worthy of Paul's attention.
Bieber does not get good reviews, and no one respects him but little girls. Kanye gets great reviews, and is respected by millions of adults, including Paul. That is our point.
-
RMartinez:
At the heart of this debate is whether Paul should, or needs, to do this.
This is an odd question to ask, and suggests that fans know better than he does what he should do.
RMartinez:
At this point, I really don't care what McCartney does career-wise. I know exactly what it means and why he does it.
It doesn't sound like you do, though, It sounds like this collaboration has left you completely confused and possibly enraged. parlance

If he collaborated with Bieber, you would support it. That's what fans do. I get it.

No, I would be horrified, and Paul would never do it. You don't give Paul much credit.

Fans don't know better. You clearly are not reading very carefully. Fans can decide for themselves if they like what an artist is doing or not. You and I don't view being a fan the same way, obviously. An artist does not need to consult fans. But I, as a fan, am not obligated to like everything the artist does without question. Maybe you do. I don't. I care in the sense that I have been a fan for decades, so I will obviously check out what Paul does. But I don't lose sleep over this, the way you seem to be doing. I listened to these songs. They are good. I choose not the buy them. Just because McCartney co-wrote them doesn't mean I will. As you and many have been pointing out, my generation really is not the target audience. The younger folks are. Let them buy it. I will wait and see what Paul does next, then make a free will decision to buy it or not buy it. So far I am underwhelmed by what I am hearing. I don't watch cartoons, so that project holds little interest for me. Lady Gaga clearly has talent, but that collaboration does not get me excited. Maybe the 2015 tour will do the job!

That's my point precisely, so please follow your own advice and read more carefully. And if you really believed that, you wouldn't even pose the question, "Should Paul be doing this?" That implies a rather condescending attitude towards Paul's decisions.

If that was all you'd been saying all along, that'd be fine. The problem is you've consistently questioned Kanye's talent, asking for examples to prove his worthiness, conflating your personal tastes with his ability. Trust me, I'm not losing sleep over this. But I will ask people to challenge their assumptions and maintain open minds. parlance

Wow. You need to take your fanatic devotion down a few notches. You act like I'm the only person on the planet who questions whether West has talent or not. I know it is painful for you to be disagreed with, but too bad. I do have an open mind. That is why I listened to these songs. But I also have my own mind, and I decide whether I like it or not. It really bothers you and some other folks here that they may not like this music. Maybe you should have an open mind. When John Lennon's music of the 70s that had Yoko screeching on it came out, I didn't like. I wasn't going to like it just because a Beatle was doing it. Again, you and I are different that way.

You're resorting to personal attacks. If you can't have a healthy debate, maybe you should step away. It's just not that serious. And since the point keeps getting lost on you, I'll repeat: your personally not liking the music is not the same as questioning Paul or anyone else's admiration for it. parlance
-
Now that's just plain funny.

I have to agree with Parlance. Posting the same opinion and repeating yourself day after day after day for weeks now isn't a healthy debate.

That makes me agree that West is not that bad in the end

Talk about repeating oneself over and over. :

FWIW, the song has gone to #1 in Australia, giving Macca his first #1 hit there since Mull of Kintyre. On the whole topic of the song/Kanye etc. Here is my take, FWIW. I was not the least bit excited over the pairing when it was announced because I don't like Kanye's music or his act. My daughter loves alot of his music though. But the 2 songs that have come out so far are fine. Only One doesn't really do much for me, but FourFiveSeconds is a great pop song. Not a good one, a great one. It is instantly catchy, the performance is excellent - Rihanna in particular sings this song very well. The lyrics aren't really where I am at in life but that is fine. It's just a great pop song and not surprisingly is doing well. I've thought for years that if you took Macca's name off of some of his songs and had someone else sing them they could be huge hits. He can still write great melodies and frankly his lyric writing has been mostly excellent the last decade. No one but the big fans will hear it because he will never get on radio on his own and that is fine with me. But at the end of the day I really enjoy this song - if other fans don't, that's fine to we all have our own tastes. But frankly I seldom equate likely a song to liking an artist. They are all human and have faults - some more than others.

This is the most thoughtful post I've read on this thread. Bravo.

This is the best post on this thread. And the songs are doing well on the charts. Looks like the Return of McCartney!

Absolutely agree.
