I was actually there for the 2010 thing. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something like THIS:
And I'm afraid to watch the 2014 vid you'd shared -- I'm hoping that it's not that cracked-out chick doing that deranged bunny-hop thing...is it?Yep, Annie from Phoenix. I was there too, for her crazy bouncing. Gotta admit that it wasn't an autograph or marriage proposal or a body-part signing! And re the Green Day thing, actually hope Paul never does that. It will just get even more people's hopes up about getting up on stage. "Hey I don't want a tattoo but yeah gotta SING with Paul! Pick MEEEEEE!" : I am paying to see Paul perform. If I want to see other people singing Paul songs, I will go see a tribute band or to Fest for Beatles Fans, or Abbey Road on the River.

Fair enough.

I wonder how many posters here that are against fans going on stage would politely say to Brian, if chosen "Oh, no thank you, I don't care to go up and meet Paul McCartney" I'm guessing not many. I went on stage in Detroit, in 2011(soundcheck) and it was one of the greatest few minutes of my life. Yes, it's true about many of us knowing each other, (and Shelley and Brian) all brought together with one thing in common-not hurting anyone, no harm, no foul. Now again I ask....WHO WOULD TURN DOWN THE CHANCE IF ASKED?????
pood for paul was part of one of the best onstage meet ups ever ! Several fans were called up...not just one...they all danced to Lady Madonna, then Paul went over & gave em all hugs ! No body parts signed ! just hugs ! It was cool & everyone was thrilled ! I'm still jealous

Me too! I wasn't there, but I heard all about it at the time. (2011?)
-
Yeah, it was pretty cool... PLUS, Paul said "I've waited 47 years to do that" on the mic, after I told him I had waited 47 years to meet him.

I don't like it. If you want to get signed, go to a signing.

I remember that and I'm still happy for you but I have to chime in, bc no WAY would I go on a stage in front of that many people without FREAKING OUT. ops: No WAY!! For other people, whatever, that's fine, but no way I would do it. just the thought of it is awful!! Stop looking at me!! * btw I put f-r-e-a-k-I-n-g out and it censored me

Im all for fans going on stage as long as it doesnt massively hold up the rest of the gig. I actually went to a McCartney signing for his New album and it was very strict. He was only able to sign an album. All your possessions and jackets etc were taken from you before you went up to meet him. He wasnt allowed to sign any other items instead of the album i.e fans arms or whatever, a girl I stood with in the queue had hauled her bass over from Denmark just to get it taken from her when it was her time to go up. So any signings Macca do now are album only, obviously due to timings etc Not bringing down the experience though, it was totally awesome my main point is that you won't get signed at signings!

It is not up to timing. It doesn't take any more time to sign a bass than to sign an album. It is to sell albums.

I'm (obviously) for it--it was truly one of the most thrilling experiences of my life, and the audience seemed to enjoy it as well. It was in a city that Paul hadn't been to before, so I don't think the audience was expecting any fans to get on stage, so it was a surprise. After the show, as well as the next day, dozens of people who were at the show approached us and talked to us, telling us they loved it and were thrilled for us. I'm sure some people thought it was dumb, but that's ok, I can't control that. Nor could I control that we were called up on stage during the show instead of during the soundcheck--that was Paul's decision. I've also been at shows when others were up on stage, and I was so excited for them. I think it's fun to watch, but that's just me

So, for those who have been called on stage, you are all for it!! Got it!!

Yes, and I was all for it before I was on stage as well--just absolutely thrilled for those I witnessed in person or watched on youtube!

I was in Nashville when the kid got called up on stage to sing. Either he was scared or he didn't know the words. Boring. The whole signing thing is way out of hand. Just my opinion. I'm thinking you have to be pretty close to get called on stage or at sound check. I also don't like the way many of those who have been signed and tattooed then wear skimpy tube tops to concerts for the rest of their lives. They are all in a group together, showing off. I like the old days, when Paul signed LPs for people who were down close.

I agree with not wearing skimpy tops forevermore, but I must say, I'm keen to get signed - I've actually booked a tattoo appointment for the morning after (I'll get something inked, regardless). I think it would complement my existing Beatles tattoos perfectly!
