For the LIFE of me, I will never understand keeping All Together Now in the set, but playing Another Girl just once or every once in a while.
That's what makes Paul's shows so exciting...you never really know what you're going to get!
You're so ****ing funny, I've never known such an uninspired predictable artist when it comes to set-lists and shows in the history of rock'n roll. Delusional rose tinted statement. Really.....some people.
His point was I believe that yes, although Paul tends to stick to the same set list, he has been known to throw in some surprises here and there during his shows. I have been to a few where that has happened. Your response was a bit rude IMO.
It was just the truth, Sir, not meant to be rude. His in-between song chat never changes either. A shock would be hearing that George was a great kazoo player.
I gotta side with Plastic on this. I was going to say the say thing to DrivinFans response of Paul's shows being exciting because of "never knowing what you will get". When you actually almost always know but can be surprised once in awhile. And of course just being at the show is exciting in itself.
Understood, but there is a way to say things without coming off as a bit condescending to others. That's what my main issue with the post is. As I have said many many times here before I am all for different opinions and discussions here, I just get put off when those types of posts start. Calling somebody's post a delusional rose tinted statement for their opinion is not cool.
Except when the view is delusional and rose tinted of course. Red rose tinted is fine though. My dose of monkberry moon delight of sarcasm may have been a little condescending, I grant you. However, if I think a statement is ridiculous, I shall say so. It was and it is. It is a bit like saying, the thing about seeing Elvis in his Vegas days was the delight and intrigue about second guessing just what kind of outfit he'd wear, when it was always the white jump suit.

I'd say they're about the same with changes...I think Elton is actually in a tougher position than Paul because he has so many more hits that people depend on hearing in concert, where Paul's catalog only seems to have a few that NEED to be in the concert (regardless of what he keeps). As far as the comment...I read it as sarcasm...but maybe I was wrong, it should have been...because for the folks that follow the sets, there hasn't been a big night of shockers since the tour kicked off over two years ago...that's a little absurd.

"Winter Rose/Love Awake" on the setlist!

You're kidding aren't you? I love the positive outlook but really...

The possibilities for the upcoming UK/EU/US tours are exciting; Penny Lane (and other surprises) in Liverpool Michelle in Paris and Marseille Can't Buy Me Love / Jet / Hope For The Future at all concerts Another Girl / One After 909 might return Who knows, there may be unexpected songs as well.
Exciting? I would say the above possibilities are standard pat predictable.

Looks like my comment may have annoyed you (Plastic Soul Man) a bit. As you can see, my remark was based on Mr. Martinez' observation that a great song like "Another Girl" gets played once, whereas a tune that most fans can take it or leave it ("All Together Now") is played every night. When the Out There Tour began in May 2013, "Hope of Deliverence" was in the set list. By the fourth show it wasn't. "You're Mother Should Know", which I believe was a favorite of most was in the set list for the first couple of legs of the tour, but was taken out when "NEW" was released. "Eight Days A Week" was the tour opener but for some reason as the tour went in was replaced ocassionaly by "Magical Mystery Tour", and more recently "Can't Buy Me Love. The Seattle show in '13 had quite a few surprises with Nirvana members showing up. Albany in 2014 saw an additional "NEW" song added to the set list for that one time only. San Francisco had two different songs in the set list. Kansas City the band played a one time only version of "Kansas City - Hey Hey Hey". Encores are changed a bit with "Birthday","I Saw Her Standing There", "Get Back" and "Hi Hi Hi" sharing the set list. "Things We Said Today", "I've Just Seen A Face" and "And I Love Her" are mixed around as well on this tour. In addition Paul sometimes plays "One After 909" most recently in Japan. I'm sure there are others that I may have overlooked. Drastic changes?...not at all, but enough for this lifelong Beatles / McCartney fan to make me want to keep going back to experience that excitement!

Folks need to know too that while songs like All Together Now and Dance Tonight seem bland choices these two go over exceptionally well in the live format. I've seen 5 Out There shows and seen Dance Tonight played 3 times on other tours. The crowd reaction to them is quite amazing.

I think at this stage the excitement is just being at a Paul concert. Predictable as hell, but gratefully accept any rare morsel he throws our way. I can't believe how I flipped when I saw the YouTube of Another Girl. Song rotations don't excite me anymore because for years they've been the same ins and outs. Can't Buy Me Love...meh. How about one song slot per city...reserved for a never played live song? Be it Wings/Beatles or solo.

...or longtime not played live songs: Getting Closer as an example instead of dragging back Let Em In...

I have never heard a few of the songs played during the Asian tour live, so if he keeps doing them, plus the expected bonus songs in Liverpool and Paris, that will be good enough for me. Most of Paul's fans from the UK and Europe have yet to experience the Out There tour, so I'm not going to be greedy and demand a new setlist. I can wait until the next tour for that.

Not trying to argue with you, but your first 3 examples are more summing up the core of the frustrations of his setlist choices than things to get excited about .

This. 'Get Back' now as possibility to be rotated in and out of the encore, yay. 'San Francisco Bay Blues' or worse, 'Midnight Special', because it's some crew member's birthday. Etc. Seriously, who's going to make that 'Alligator', or more safe, 'Big Barn Bed'-banner for the Amsterdam gigs? Do it two nights in a row and it's going to be a staple for the coming 5 years for the rest of the world to enjoy as well as "spontaneous" bit in the set, hehe...

My point was, slightly tongue-in-cheek, without trying to argue, that those 3 things are what are the most frustrating and baffling things about his set: brand new, fresh additions being axed before it gets out of one leg or continent of a tour, often replaced by the same ol' same ol'.

Agreed, the three shows I've been to where "All Together Now" has been played, the folks around me were into it. Am I correct in remembering that Paul also touts ATN as a song for the kids in the audience?

No argument here...but my point exactly...the excitement of not really knowing what Paul will or will not play at any particular concert! I agree with you that some of those changes may be frustrating to some fans. I guess that's all part of the McCartney setlist mystery!

Sorry to disagree, but Paul's setlist changes are few and far between, and mostly come during the first few shows of each tour or each tour leg, as your examples point out. Then he tweaks and the set stays the same for the rest of that leg. Even now it's almost the same set as last year. Contrast him with Springsteen, who really does change his set list every single night. I remember one tour where he did a different opener in every city. And not just a switch between one or two songs. If you went to 5 shows on that tour, you saw 5 totally different opening songs. So with Bruce, I really don't know what he is going to do; with Paul, I know.

Good point. And I think repeat offenders (people who see him every tour) are really not his concern, rather casual fans who are seeing him for the first time. For them, it is not predictable. Those of us who have seen him many times should probably just sit back and enjoy the show, if you attend.
