What do you think of the song 'Press'?

I remember In the mid 80s, I was of those who spent all savings on records and "Spies Like Us" and "Press" was no exception. I was a teenager and I remember playing them at parties but although the songs had an 80's sound, I think people thought they were more eccentric than contempoary. I loved "Press to Play" but I can't remember it was especially popular. I had it more or less to myself. This was the era of "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits and a kind of albums with as many hit singles as there were songs on it. But McCartney was not of these, Maybe that is why he suddenly became a critic favorite with "Press to Play". Before, it was the masses who enjoyed his music and not the critics. Now it was reverse.

".Its production was deliberate, and the goal was to emphasize the state of the art. I think people should listen to the album with that in mind. It's quite a joyride via headphones. It's as much of its time as Sgt. Pepper was for the '60s or as Electric Arguments is for the current era.
Press To Play's issues for me are the overall patchy song writing quality more than the well criticised '80's production sound. I think over Paul's long post Beatle career it's the quality control issue that hampers his musical output more than any production issue of the time.If you put the best songs from PTP and Flowers you have a great album on your hands, less is more sometimes. PRESS THE FLOWERS (86-89) MY BRAVE FACE GOOD TIMES COMING/FEEL THE SUN WE GOT MARRIED FOOTPRINTS THIS ONE FIGURE OF EIGHT PUT IT THERE ONCE UPON A LONG AGO BACK ON MY FEET FLYING TO MY HOME
I like your album title! My favs are Good Times Coming/Feel The Sun, Once Upon A Long Ago and Flying To My Home...but really love every song on this list!
I like Play In The Dirt better.
I think I like that better too! I like them both!!

I've been one of those too. Whatever he released I would buy. He is McCartney after all. Even if I found out later it wasn't so good. Pipes of Peace was one of those, but even it has 3 or 4 really good songs. Somehow I avoided Wildlife altogether though. The only other of his that never really grew on me is Driving Rain. But I quite liked and like Press To Play.
