Paul at the PETA Anniversary Event

Anyone concerned/worried/threatened Paul and friends might trot out Love Song To Earth?

At a show I'll never see or hear much about? He might as well play Biker Like an Icon.

For that crowd it would be better than Kanye's All Day ___. Now THAT, I'd like to see.

I left my other $100,000 in my other pants and they went through the washing machine Seriously...stuff like this makes me think, "You can only be into animal rights if you're rich" one of the things I'm wondering, is Paul actually performing for charity meaning 'no pay'? I found that many celebs at these events actually do get paid because their presence attracts donations. Paris Hilton, for example, has gotten paid to dance in crowds at these type of events because she attracts a crows that will come just to watch for her. I was a bit surprised as that was considered, "Working for Charity." To me it means, "working for a charity" which is different (and yeah, I don't give charities that can afford to pay such fees)

I trust no charity. Only 27% of the proceeds that resulted from half the world pouring ice-water on themselves like dumb-asses went to the actual research. Kim Kardashisn pocketed the majority of the money raised from her supposed charity auction. I could go on... George Harrison was correct: The rich throw these events for themselves.

Broadly speaking yes. You have to be discerning. I certainly wouldn't give a cent toward anything connected with the UN. Anyone who does that is an idiot.

And I wouldn't give a dime to PETA under any circumstances. They literally tried to kill a good friend of mine, Jeff Getty, by trying to block the research experiment that added 10 years to his life. Some of the story is here, though the date on the article is wrong: The experiment was in 1995 and Jeff lived until 2006. http://www.naiaonline.org/articles/article/jeff-getty-fights-for-life#sthash.X5n3Bj1q.dpbs I was working as a journalist at the time and actually had the opportunity to interview a couple of the PETA staffers who were campaigning against the study. They were utterly, shockingly dishonest and profoundly ignorant.

Very bad example, I wouldn't trust Kim Kardashian with *anything! There are many charities out there that DO help the people they are supposed to help. You just have to do your research. And many smaller, local charities do good things within their communities and can always use funds.

Operation Smile, one of the charities that has surgeons fixing hairlips and other deformities in third world children, has a very good reputation. I know two doctors both from Asia who have done work for them

It's the death wishes that turned me off big time. I don't put humans above animals and don't practice speciesism (except when it comes to my bed and chair...but that's just me being possessive), and I abhor trophy hunting but don't get those who take out their sadism on websites describing in some cases graphic gory detail what they'd love to do to that hunter. If it's a she, it gets even worse. It made me walk away from the community
-
Though I do still ask this question: Why do we do research on animals when we have pedophiles in prison?

The realities about the UN go waaaay over most uninformwed people's heads, but I know exactly what you're talking about.

Last call for anyone interested in attending the PETA Gala, September 30th in Los Angeles which is sold out! Paul McCartney will be performing and in the audience. There will be a star-studded audience in attendance. 3,800 people venue! I have one ticket left! I have a table close to the stage. The cost is $2,500 (face value charity ticket) per person and is tax deductible. After your tax deduction (PETA says it should be around $2,325.00) that makes the ticket cost $175.00. The ticket includes vegan dinner and a Paul McCartney concert. You can't even buy a Macca ticket for $175.00 that includes all of that and it's a small venue. Plus he will be there all night! And this is the charity that gives out an Award every year in dedication of LINDA! Only one spot left! You would pay PETA directly with a credit card. Deadline has been extended to 10AM ET on Friday SEPT 11. Only serious inquiries. jorieg1@aol.com

It doesn't surprise me anymore when an organization with a supposedly "trusted" name is exposed as the opposite of what they purport themselves to be.

Remember this is a charity that Paul supports and that Linda supported. There will be an award in Linda's name presented at this event. Paul and his family will be there. Whether or not you agree or disagree with PETA principals remember this is a very RARE opportunity to see Paul perform at a small venue with fans and friends that love animals.

Being a Paul fan does not oblige me to support everything he supports. Many PETA members (including Paul, I presume) mean well, but the organization is evil. I wouldn't attend this if it was going to be Paul's last performance ever.

This thread is for people who are interested in the rare opportunity to see Paul at this event. I really don't think this is the place to vent about a charity that Paul supports. If you feel that way about PETA please create a new thread with the topic of why you dislike PETA. This is not the appropriate place.

I knew about charity being tax deductible but that high? So basically, me as an American tax payer is paying for this. Now I've got a really big reason to hate PETA....and all those rich folks getting out of paying more taxes..... Excuse me. I have to go to work now. I'm supporting the uber-rich
