New Connie Francis memoir "Among My Souvenirs: The Real Story" by the 80 year old vintage songbird sounds interesting. Details her many decades long hard row to hoe.
William "Star Trek" Shatner was signed to a country music recording deal in Nashville. "Can't wait."
Time mag said of Swedish sister duo "First Aid Kit" that their voices are "gorgeous" with Americana, rock, country and folk influences on their new 4th album "Ruins" inspired by "Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Dixie Chicks" and Dylan, Kenny Rogers, Simon and Garfunkel, EmmyLou Harris (*heard covers on you tube). Their cover of folk rock group Fleet Foxes hit "Tiger Mountainview Peasant Song" went viral. They sing with great spirit and enthusiasm. I had never heard of them until I read the Time piece from a January 2018 issue.

A 19 year old wanna be rock star applicant on "American Idol" is a laughing stock after he complained when Katy Perry kissed him quick on the lips that he "had wanted to save his first kiss for a relationship" and felt violated or put upon. A lot of people laughed at him and commented things like most guys would love for Katy Perry to kiss them (even Katy with not much hair). One online wag wrote, however, that Perry had better watch it, tone it down in this age of #MeToo campaign against sexual harrassment. And not pounce on the contestants. LOL, especially if they turn out to be jail bait/not "legal."

That's the internet for you. You don't get to choose your first kiss if someone who has a lot of fans jumps you.

Gwen Stefani will start a residency at the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood.
Gigi Hadid and singer Zayn Malik have split...shame, they both were UFO believers/enthusiasts.
Tim McGraw fainted at a concert in Ireland and Faith Hill came onstage and blamed it on "dehydration." Hope it's not from the same cause as what reportedly felled Judy Garland's daughter Lorna Luft onstage--a brain tumor.
Keith Urban spit up blood after singing (ugh) and fears for his vocal chords.
Renee Zellweger will star in "Judy!" about Judy Garland's tragic last days in London before she fatally overdosed at age 47. Sounds like a depressing flick. Some Judy fans denounce the Debbie Downer movie planned about the troubled songbird, say Zelleger's pipes aren't up to it (whose would be?). Zellweger did sing well in the musical "Chicago" but probably not on par with Garland's singing.

"Kiss" star Gene Simmons humble bragged that he's never imbibed alcohol, smoked, or done drugs, despite his rocker hard partying image. I've read he has also said before he's had 2,000 groupies and snapped a pic of each one for his scrapbook, LOL, looks like he does have one vice. If that's regarded as a vice. I assume they were all of legal age and it was consensual.

An upcoming new book in the U.K. about Carrie Fisher will detail her affairs with David Bowie and Freddy Mercury it claims she had when she was a 17 year old drama student in London.
Recent Bob Dylan sightings: In a 7/11 type convenience store ("What's a sweetheart like you doin' in a place like this?" LOL)--he's wearing a cool looking black jacket, a bit fancy with embroidery on part, and a cool looking black hat...in another, he was also seen on Hollywood Blvd. where he reportedly jumped out of his car to pose in selfies with two men in costumes to look like Star Trek's "Mr. Spock" and sportscaster Don E. King, perhaps belying some rather middle-brow interests of the genius Dylan.

Taylor Swift "got stuck in a golden cage half-way going up" on stage in a recent concert (laughs). She's sporting a new more womanly figure now, not such a toothpick, anymore.
Blake Shelton was tore up on stage recently, fell down drunk (LOL) and later beseeched fans to provide video footage of his mishap. Laughing it off. A woman tweeted a chiding remark that he should provide a sober show for fans with no similar physical mess ups, and he tweeted back to go get a sense of humor or not tweet him anymore, something like that. I remembered Stevie Nicks falling down as she twirled around when I saw her in a solo concert in Seattle. She then explained she had stayed up late partying the night before and I thought, wryly, "Thanks a lot, Stevie." I do think performers shouldn't go on stage inebriated or hungover, in consideration for their audience.
Tim McGraw goes to the other extreme claiming he and some of his band "run for miles" before performances; seems he'd be sort of exhausted when he goes on stage (?). Like he should save it for the stage. He must be in amazing shape. He fainted on stage not long ago, though, and Faith Hill came out and told the audience he was "dehydrated." Tim needs to chug down the gatorade after his pre-show runs.

Alicia Keys chopped off her hair in a semi-80's hairstyle--hope Bobby likes it! (Dylan). She knows she can always wear wigs and hair pieces, so why not?
Justin Bieber got engaged to model Hailey Baldwin--he seems immature, hard to imagine it will last, but good for them if it does.

Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson are among stars to appear in a movie musical version of "Cats" by Andrew Lloyd Weber (he has a new autobiography out).

LOL Magical movie musical Mystery Lure:"Mama Mia: Here We Go Again" the wildly entertaining sequel to the fantastically popular, lucrative "Mama Mia" ten years ago mysteriously omits much of Meryl Streep's scintillating presence as Greek island lover Donna the initial Abba lovers outing was graced with (because she can still kick, but not that high? Her fee for this new Abba worshiping flick sky rocketed after "Mama Mia" turned Streep into a gigantic "movie star" above and beyond "mere" most talented thespian? She wished to seem even more special for being "rare," too seldom seen and sorely missed in this?) and hopes to compensate somewhat by adding similar iconic-like status cinematic glory hog Cher!!--who delivers in spectacular fashion, here, to the point Cher's gonna come out with an all-Abba album sung by CHER, which will prompt a stampede to the record store (or would, if these still existed) after her fabulous rendition of "Fernando" and other Abba stunners in this movie, done gloriously so you even wish a whole movie and not just the upcoming Broadway show would be built around Cher and her hits. As was granted Swedish juicy meat balls ABBA! Hot dawg, can't wait for Cher Bono Allman doing all Abba on her new album ! (Even if this anticipation doesn't seem all that "cool")--
Cool beans, hot tight bellbottom blues jeans Baby yeah yeah yeah (jumps up n' down, throws hat in the air, beams with rapture, then gives petulant dubious frown, was this post cool?LOL, if ya don't think so, you're a stuffy fuddy duddy baby, kiss my grits) !!! This fun funky spunky glittery sparkly disco flick, even "too Streepless" (not sleepless in Seattle), in the midst of THAT crybaby heated battle, also oughta be a big hit, or I'll just...spit. Kiss my grits

Madonna fuh-ed up her tribute to Aretha Franklin at the Mtv VMA awards by bizarrely talking up herself and her hard scrabble existence before making it big, but thankfully Aretha's famous hit "Natural Woman" sung by MADONNA at an audition finally propelled MADONNA into the chorus of some French show biz people's tour, launching her onto the...bigtime launch pad, so good thing Aretha made that ditty a hit for MADONNA !! Thank heavens ! Huge outcry on social media over Madonna's seemingly slighting the Queen of Soul on the MTV VMA show in favor of glorifying herself. Big uproar. Some news outlets maintain Madonna also botched up her Prince tribute at a glittery televised awards show, after he passed--so why was she tapped to perform the honors for Aretha? They wondered. Even said whomever picked her should be tossed out on their can and canned. Madonna did sport some funky ethnic garb for the VMAs, didn't try to look sexy at all, which was cool. She wore a long wide heavy ebony black caftan adorned with funky handmade African jewelry and turban with very long Pippi Longstocking braids as her hairstyle. She looked more third world than Material Girl. I must go google what Madonna did at her Prince tribute to mess up there, too. Will report back.

Madonna explained she was asked to introduce a winner and also to briefly mention what Aretha Franklin means to her, personally, and said there wasn't much time. (A big tribute show is planned in Aretha's honor, coming up soon.) So the naysayers were too quick to judge, as she said, but some still aren't satisfied with that explanation. I think they should be, possibly.
Cher's new album "Dancing Queen" is being rushed out (strike while the iron is hot) and will drop in just a few weeks, or even sooner.
A Star is Born remake with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will be out soon, and I was pleasantly surprised seeing a trailer that Lady Gaga does have some acting talent. Bradley Cooper is a far cry from Kris Kristofferson, who looked like the most gorgeous man on the planet in his and Barb Striesand's version, and even a much further cry from James Mason (starred with Judy Garland in the second remake), but I want to see this, am curious, it'll have music in it (but what kind?) and Gaga's acting looked better than expected. She DID win a emmy for her turn in "American Horror Story" (I've never seen that), a show that will again feature Stevie Nicks cameos as a witch. I like Bradley Cooper some. He was touching and effective playing a guy with bi-polar in that movie which won Jennifer Lawrence an Oscar. Her character seemed to have it, too. It turned me off that he played American Sniper.

Lindsey Buckingham is going to perform in concert at a community college in Wilmington, N.C., and the whole town is going nuts...they don't get a classic legend like him playing there very often, unless it's at the annual Azalea Festival thingie...they also went wild when The Steve Miller Band played a few years ago...wowza just imagine if Macca played at the University arena, they'd shut down the whole city for it (he did play University of Charlottesville in Virginia, a rather small sized venue, for him, well, that city was, and he's gonna play at a small city in South Carolina, Greenville, next May but it's located with big cities nearby to draw more of a huge crowd) ! I remember when Fayetteville, N.C. went bananas both times Elton John performed there in 2000 and then again years later. Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band played Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Palace once, but I didn't find out until much later or I'd have gone. Art Garfunkle performed there, too. I was surprised.
-
Wilmington is a smallish resort city on the N.C. coast, on the Atlantic ocean, btw. A lot of movies with big name actors have been filmed there and t.v. series, because of its beautiful light and scenic and financial value, etc. and because the late Dino deLaurentis built a big film studio there. Elton John played Fayetteville, N.C., home of Fort Bragg, twice, wanting to do something for the troops.
Tina Turner is reportedly fighting stomach cancer, a stroke and her body rejecting a liver transplant and we should send out best wishes to the universe, for her, that she recovers...Tina's a real treasure. Broadway will put on a big show based on her life, next year.

Lady Gaga will have a two year residency in Las Vegas. Awards season buzz for her in "A Star is Born" ! And it turns out that Bradley Cooper sings well, can write songs and play guitar, in that well made, striking, even stunning movie. As well as direct, co-produce, co-write the screenplay. We already knew he can act. I suspected Gaga can act, from her winning a Golden Globe for American Horror Show, which I'd never seen. She's natural and looks natural. A friend called her acting in this "wooden" like just reading from the page, she said, but I found Gaga's star turn pretty subtle and nuanced. Not over the top like her stage persona... And I love the original songs ! Lucas Nelson, Willie Nelson's son, had a strong hand on this soundtrack along with Gaga and Cooper.
Selena Gomez is out of the hospital. Great news.
"Queen of Country Music" Loretta Lynn was also ailing recently and a relative asked for prayers for her, but then later he said she had rebounded. Sure hope so!
-
Rod Stewart broke his foot, but still put on a big concert in Bozman, Montana recently. A facebook friend of mine in Montana's daughter is a life coach and gives massages and was called upon to minister to Rod's foot. She doesn't talk about clients, but did tell her mom that Rod Stewart was very nice to her, and aggravated by his hurt foot.

The "Bohemian Rapsody" biopic about Freddy Mercury of "Queen" is now the second highest grossing music movie of all time ! According to "Rolling Stone" mag, so it must be true. Also this year Lady GaGa's "A Star is Born" remake is approaching over $300 million and still going strong. I'm sure "Mama Mia: Here We Go Again" was also a big hit.
Justin Beiber has gotten a buzzcut.
Tina Turner got a kidney transplant donated by her German husband, not a liver transplant as I mistakenly wrote. A tabloid claims she has only "six months to live," which I pray isn't true; another claimed she is planning to greatly outdo Aretha Franklin's funeral, make it even more spectacular, but that doesn't sound like Tina to me.
Lady Gaga won a Golden Globe for "American Horror Story," not an Emmy, as I had reported.

Hootie and the Blowfish, 90's favorites of some will tour again in 2019 and release a new album.
Hugh Jackman will tour his Broadway song and dance act, and it's claimed he will play large arenas like rock and pop stars appear in.
"The Cher Show" a "jukebox musical" has opened on Broadway with three divas starring as Cher in different stages of her long career. Kanye West talked on his smartphone at one point during the show, and was called out by the actor playing Sono Bono. West reportedly quickly put away his phone. Cher wore tight black stretch pants and plain black knee high boots with a semi-fancy black top instead of a flashy gown, at the premiere.
Dolly Parton wrote the music for Jennifer Anniston's new movie comedy "Dumplin'" which comes out Dec. 7 on Netflix and in theaters. I read the amusing novel it's based on. The film is set in the South U.S.A.
It will be interesting to see if Rami Malek, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga score Oscar noms when they're announced Dec. 6. Malek starred as Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Cooper and Lady Gaga in the "A Star is Born" remake. Both films are big hits.
-
I listened to Dolly Parton's "Dumplin'" album songs on Spotify and really enjoy them. Sia, Mavis Staples, Miranda Lambert and more sing on them with Dolly. Their voices sound good with hers.

I read most of Tina Turner's new book "My Love Story" at the library, and it's quite poignant and touching. At that time (hope it's still true) they'd gotten out all the stomach cancer, but she had to have a kidney transplant and her German husband Erwin provided one of his; her body tried to reject it, and she was on special medicine to prevent that. She wrote if her time to leave her body and earth was soon, she feels she's accomplished all she wanted to in her life, and she'd go join her parents and other loved ones. Then was granted a reprieve, which I hope continues.
Tina wrote that for a long time she thought no one loved her. Until she met Erwin. I wondered why she left out her children and her fans, who surely loved her. Perhaps she meant a romantic partner--Ike Turner certainly wasn't loving. But she thought her own mother didn't love her... until she became "Tina Turner."
Dolly Parton will be "in" this year according to a 2019 "what's in/what's out" list.
A new South Korean boy band called "DDS" or something like that is supposedly the "ne plus ultra" right now, just too cool for words, and Cardi B, Drake, Kendrick Lamarr and that ilk are still flying high-- with the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, et. al., the "old" sort of pop stars, still famous and popular-- but nevertheless, not the latest, hippest thing, according to The New York Times
