Why are so many versions of the lyrics Monkberry Moon Del..?

"Well I know my banana is older than the rest" Shades of "sweet banana!"
Well, and then what? " And my hair is a tangled beretta"? What does it mean? What is "a tangled beretta"?
A beret is a flat round cap, but I think a beretta is a type of hand gun! God only knows where he came up with that!

Listened with earbuds on youtube and it sounds like he says "piano up my nose." (but pillow would make more sense!)
And you've come to that conclusion on the basis of what,Nancy? That Paul can get a pillow up his nose easier than a piano?
When he would wake up hungover with his nose in the pillow (during his near nervous breakdown after The Beatles broke up and he, Linda & the kids holed up in Scotland) And he also had a "knot in his stomach" which of course we don't take literally.

Kestrel:
Listening again it does sound more like 'pin-no' rather than 'kin-no'. I can only hear two syllable's which would rule out piano. Pillow is popular but I don't hear an 'l' at all in Paul's pronunciation. Hmmm.....
.Because he doesn't sing pee-a-no, but sings pyan-o, hence 2 syllables.

.Here I think everything is clear. Paul says: "piano" and Hawkins - "pillow". Better tell me what you hear, "Beretta" or "buretta"?
Buretta is how most people pronounce beretta. (the gun) *confused*

Thank you. But the text of the songwriter RAM 1971 and it is written: "buretta". What is it that in a song? The weapon, a headdress or a thin tube of glass? Or hairpin? http://www.instyleone.com/triangle-hair-burette/ :

It was spelled "beretta" in Kestrel's post on the 23rd, so that was what I was going by. Also here, it is written beretta (and piano too btw) http://www.bing.com/search?q=monkberry+moon+delight+lyrics&form=PRHPCS&pc=HPDTDFJS&mkt=en-us&refig=259ea01620304aac9f9b89cfd8a274fa&qs=AS&pq=monkberr&sk=AS1&sc=8-8&sp=2&cvid=259ea01620304aac9f9b89cfd8a274fa

Still there is the view that the Beretta = biretta, headdress of a Catholic priest. Does the phrase "tangled Beretta" means "secret, hidden from the understanding of disguised weapons"? That is to say, "my hair - my trump card, my concealed weapon".

The text of the song on the official website of Paul written buretta. http://www.paulmccartney.com/albums/songs/monkberry-moon-delight And here, too buretta http://www.paulmccartney.com/books/ram-album-songbook

The problem with all these variant spellings is that various folk over the last 44 years have sat down and written down the lyric as they hear them. Even for the original sheet music / songbook. If it still exists,I'd love Paul to post up on his website the original lyric....as he worded it.

Same can be said of Rocky Raccoon. The written lyrics read mountain but many hear him sing mining hills as the lyrics here show: http://www.bing.com/search?q=rocky%20raccoon&pc=cosp&ptag=G1373A61B4F83166&form=CONBDF&conlogo=CT3210127

Yes, I agree with you. The site of Paul exhibited a mixture of text - the text of the songbook errors and lyrics he sings. I admit that Paul rarely visited the site and did not see this text. But songbook RAM 1971 is probably the official printed edition. He had to know the text and to assure him before publication. Or I'm wrong? : And here someone else make the correction manually: http://www.paulmccartney.com/books/ram-album-songbook Perhaps Paul himself? This is his handwriting? :

What's cool with Paul's deluxe boxed sets is he usually has a couple of pages of the originally written lyrics, with cross outs and substitutions! Very cool to see sometimes doodles on them, or things the kids did too!
-
yeah, i thought it was, "so i sat in the attic, a candle up my nose..."

Wow! This is what we 70 did not know English, and the tapes were very bad-quality , so heard "My very moody life" instead of "Monkberry Moon Delight" and "My love" instead of "Wild life." I never thought that native speakers of English may well be confused words. Excuse me.

So, we can draw some conclusions. I am a man who does not know English, I realized that "Beretta" (buretta) probably a gun. "Banana Is older than the rest "- an allusion to the maturity of banana and sweet taste. And who is Billy Budapest? In one forum said that there was a manufacturer of children's clothes (or even pajamas) --Billy Budapest. It's true? And what is it "a brilliant expression of 70" Super Dooray? :

I think Paul's reference to "Banana" in this song and in HiHiHi does not refer to an actual banana my dear! To put it bluntly, it refers to his manhood. Do you know that word? Not sure I can type the actual anatomical word here without being censored!
-
P.S. Paul's official site says it is "Phyllis Budapest" which is probably just a made up name like Eleanor Rigby. Official site also says "Pillow up my nose." http://www.paulmccartney.com/albums/songs/monkberry-moon-delight

Yes, for me personally, too, the first to come to mind. But later I learned that the "Banana" in the slang and a clown, and a moron and a lot more then. Can the line "Well I know my banana Is older than the rest "understood as follows? Well, I know, my clown (the image of the role of the clown) is older than the rest. That is to say, "Well, I know what has become the moron sooner than others." And further; "And my hair - it is not clear what it represents, But I'm not a little boy (left my children's pajamas their designer), And I don't get the gist of your letter". I am not sure, I ask you. Whether it is really possible to interpret so these lines?
