New ELO and Paul
-
I have listened to ELO's new songs When I Was A Boy and One Step At a Time and think they are great. Paul should collaborate with Jeff Lynne, someone who lives and creates in the same universe Paul does. And leave that Kanye nonsense behind. It has brought NOTHING to the McCartney legacy table. I can appreciate Paul wanting to write in different styles and mediums, ie classical or old standards. But to try and be youthful at this stage, what exactly is the point? It doesn't work.

Yes. I could hear Paul singing One Step At A Time, it is a very McCartney-ish melody.

It did for many people though. Paul McCartney contributed to one of the best rap songs of the last few years, and my favourite tune of 2015. No nonsense or trying involved, just pure success. For me, like the majority of the new ELO album, another Jeff Lynne-collabo would be an absolute snoozer.

You and ten other McCartney fans liked it only because it was McCartney. And NO rap fans came on board to be McCartney fans. Time will prove Paul's sojourn into rap is the snoozer. In the meantime, Jeff Lynne and ELO are doing it right as a come back act (which is what McCartney is at this point, nothing more, unless you include all the Beatles re-issues ad nauseum). In 2016, it will be Lynne and his LP getting all the rock press, not Paul with ANOTHER samey tour with a different name playing the same markets. Maybe a different name. I already like two of ELO's new songs, that is one more than I liked on NEW. Talk about a snoozer. Hey, but if you're happy with what Paul is doing, cool! I didn't buy his rap music, at any level.

ELO were on one of the talk-shows this last week or so... can't remember which one... Fallon or one of the others.... just stumbled upon it.... but the song they played sounded great!..... Full of melody..... "Melody" being the antithesis of Kanye and rap....

And that is what Paul does best. Melody. I do get that he is very talented and can create in various styles, and if he enjoys it, good for him. But people buy his music to hear McCartney music. If I want rap music I will get it from people who specialize in that music form. Maybe Paul shouldn't work with Lynne. Or Neil Finn. I just wish he would put out a great LP with the kind of music he is known for.

You can have the Kanye CD. I'll give my money to Jeff Lynne.

If Lynne is producing, then no thanks.

Paul and Jeff Lynne collaborated on alot Flaming Pie which I believe is one of Paul's very best so any more collaborations with Jeff would be fine with me. I have hoped it would of happened long ago. I have got Jeff''s/ELO latest and while not as great as Zoom from 2001 it is still excellent.
-
Sounds interesting any Idea if they have a temporary new name love doris
-
The Last 3 Jeff solo or Elo albums (for me 3 solo albums of original music)are all great music since the great Armchair theatre and to the great Zoom and for the majority of macca fans the 3 best macca albums are Band on the run,Ram and Flaming pie that makes Flaming pie his best solo solo album...for me give Kanye or give Jeff no one Is a snoozer!i always want more music from macca Don't care from where or with who

I actually did not mean Lynne should produce. I think Paul could use a hand writing songs, and Lynne still does a great job, and someone like Neil Finn would be great for Paul to work with on songwriting. Except for the song "New" his most recent songs sound very incomplete and not very well thought out. I think someone like Lynne could coax more great songs out of Paul. And I mean Paul style songs, not "rap" or "40s standards." Clearly, Kanye West has not. Hope For The Future??? "Yawn!" "Snooze!"
-
^ Ironically I think New was the weakest track on that album. There are some great tracks though like On My Way To Work, Queenie Eye, Early Days, I Can Bet and the two classics, Hosanna and Scared. If you exclude Memory Almost Full, then Paul has been consistently writing and recording some of his finest work these last 10 years and certainly doesn't need to be writing with anyone. Paul just needs a strong producer who can weed out the lesser material.
