Not sure if it means anything, but Paul's Facebook page (and Twitter account) posted a message wishing a Happy New Year to his Chinese fans (something that hasn't been done in years prior).
Pointedly to the Chinese. And posted with a pic of himself in concert...of course the lunar ny is not China exclusive. Is this a pattern? Australia...China...what next?
Bring on New Mexico Day!! Yes!!!

Which is why I, and others, speculate about this. It's just such an aberration from what he usually does. It could be just posting messages just because, but I believe that there's more to it (considering how there have been ongoing negotiations about Australian dates). I guess we'll find out in a few weeks time.

All hype, deals are made months and months in advance. Official announcement for the show (Sunday 12 June) will be 17 February.

2016 World Tour - Scotland, Australia, China and New Mexico
Here's Paul's latest Facebook message: "Have a super Mardi! Love to New Orleans #MardiGras (Happy #PancakeDay too!)" I'm now convinced that Paul's people have a social media strategy for 2016 to namecheck "days of significance" around the world, and that (sadly for Australia, Scotland and China), it has no specific connection to Paul's future touring plans.
-
How about just announce dates? How's that for a media strategy?
-
International Pancake Day. I doubt he's doing a show in Liberal, Kansas. Although it would be his first ever in that state.

I guess part of their job is to come up with ways to increase Paul's exposure on social media. Looking up a list of "days of significance" on the internet is an easy way to generate lots more new messages to post, and ones that people are likely to "like" or "share". That equals a lot of virtually free advertising. As for why "all of a sudden", I suspect they had a meeting sometime in 2015 to come up with new strategies for 2016. This all began in January.

And here's more (http://www.radio1.nl/item/342986-Komt-Sir-Paul-naar-Pinkpop?_html=),,) the common slips of the tongue by the Pinkpop mascotte in an reaction: ?I?m not going to say anything about it [now], because I want to do that on Wednesday?, when they will announce their line-up in the legendary Paradiso venue. He also hints it's not up them, but with huge acts like this up to the management to make the announcement. Just like with long-awaited booking of the Stones in 2014, when he had to hold out until the Stones were ready to announce their full EU tour, including at the time Pinkpop, Werchter Classic and Roskilde. Could it be, McCartney announcing dates 4 months in advance...?

Mind you they were the rescheduled dates, but he announced the Japan shows on January 29 of last year. Of course every year is different when it comes to announcing shows, but there is precedent for early announcements.

Japan had an early (for Paul) announcement and on-sale in 2013 also. I suspect that the promoters over there wouldn't tolerate the short notice that promoters elsewhere seem content to put up with. (For evidence that they don't do things Paul's way, try tracking down the interview from a little over a year ago in which Paul said that he had advised the Japanese promoters to sell release the Tokyo tickets one show at-a-time...which they did not do.) I think Australian promoters would want "extra" notice too.

Haha, their hype machine is really in full effect: http://www.1limburg.nl/komst-paul-mccartney-naar-pinkpop-99-procent-zeker The coming week it will still all be vague, unconfirmed, and then during the day of the press conference... the final phone call will come in ;). They pulled this trick before, with Springsteen a few years ago. Meanwhile, I'm sighing at the reactions on Dutch social media and on the radio on the mention of a live show by Paul McCartney alone. I really wonder why he even bothers, especially since he was playing for a crowd full of fans in The Netherlands half a year ago. I'm giving it a pass this time, personally, but I hope it will open the eyes of some music fans who otherwise wouldn't ever pay for a ticket to his show.
-
Why he even bothers ??? Because he loves playing live, because the Dutch audiences are among the most enthusiastic in Europe, because this is a famous festival (the oldest in Europe), because it will introduce him to a younger audience, because he loves MUSIC ! Yes, the usual hype is going on, and why wouldn't it ? It's part of the legend that he is. Holland will love it and see it as an honour if he would play Pinkpop. And the "99% sure he will play it" hype is 100%, as everyone knows.... For fans like me, who mostly saw Paul in concert halls, this will be an opportunity (hopefully) to see him in a different environment. Pinkpop, let the party begin!

I am sure it's impossible for Paul to postpone his appearance at the prestigious Pinkpop Festival in The Netherlands any longer. So I bet by next Wednesday the rumours will prove to be no rumours any more.
-
Beside of Pinkpop show - did you heard about some shows in Europe?
-
I am a bit shocked at how quiet and rumor-less this thread is. Still, it is just February. But other acts are announcing tours for August and September. Wait and see, I guess.
-
Maybe after Wednesday (official Pinkpop announcement) there will be an explosion of rumours and news...?
