That Australia Day message received something like 700 replies in 24 hours most all pleading for a tour or concert down here, so there IS interest.

Good luck for australian fans! Thanks very much for the link. It looks like the print version of the article is much shorter than the online version. The online version included all of the info that I paraphrased above plus a bit of irrelevant stuff about Stella.

Including Auckland he could do as many as 8 or 9 concerts here.
I agree. The last Rolling Stones tour had 1 gig in New Zealand and 8 in Australia (though one was cancelled due to Mick having a throat infection).

Wow, this thread will turn 13 this year! Lucky 13, or just another petulant teenager? Time will tell...

I reckon he could fill AAMI stadium twice here, though Rod Laver Arena shows are the dream setting. Please God, no MCG! Hanging Rock? Brisbane Metricon stadium perhaps or is there a suitable arena? Adelaide Oval seems a go. Subiaco in Perth? Geez listen to me pondering venues with nothing even announced!

Allphones Arena Sydney? Brisbane Entertainment Centre?

Feeling optimistic the drought will be over and hoping when it is ,it will be at least 2 shows in each city not the ridiculous 1 show theme in 1 or 2 major cities only. For Melbourne, Rod Lavers Arena sounds great. Imagine The Palais in St. Kilda ?

LOL! The Palais? For sentimental reasons I'd love 3 shows in Melbourne: 2 Rod Laver arena and 1 back to the Myer Music Bowl on a hot summer night. Tell you what, wouldn't surprise me if Ringo played the Palais when he returns. I reckon it'd be between the Palais and Hamer Hall. Both of them great venues for Ringo.
-
For selfish reasons - I live in Elwood near the Palais Theatre. However if it's good enough for Bob Dylan,Leonard Cohen, Ry Cooder, CSN,, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Brian Wilson I would say it's good enough for Paul McCartney and certainly Ringo.

I haven't been to either of those Melbourne stadiums. How do they differ for the audience? And is AAMI stadium the one he was going to play in 2002 (possibly renamed)? In Brisbane, the big acts usually play at either Suncorp Stadium (e.g., U2, Madonna, Eminem, Taylor Swift) or the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (e.g., The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath). Metricon Stadium is a funny one that sometimes attracts big acts (e.g., Foo Fighters) but is actually on the Gold Coast not in Brisbane. Nice for an extra concert, but hopefully not for the "Brisbane" concert.

Me too, and I'm confident that the plan will be nothing like that of 2002. Why risk repeating that kind of history? Also, Paul has stated publicly (a few years ago now) that he would like to tour Australia properly, like in 1993.

Rod Laver is the growl. The primo arena venue. AAMI is a "small" stadium. Speingsteen did 2 there recently. Good intimate outdoor venue. Telstra Dome or Etihad, as it's now known is the one from the 2002 debacle.
