Dusseldorf, Germany- Esprit Arena- May 28th - ARCHIVE

Indeed, plus the fact that literally hundreds of people had been waiting for hours, also children. I was there in Dusseldorf and was at the hotel as well. And the show was superb. He was in such a good mood. I had bad seats, the sound quality was not the best ever and it was all-seated but this experience was one I will always remember. Oh, and I briefly met Wix at the Arena. Nobody seemed to recognize him (probably nobody expected that he would be walking around at the venue), but my friend recognized him and we shook hands. Also glad that Paul finally dropped some familiar stories (Jimi, Clapton, George the ukelele player). Still 2 concerts to follow for me luckily...

Has anyone seen the video where Paul comes out (of the hotel I think) and a little boy makes a run at him and security scoops him up and whisks him away? Paul tells security to bring him back and he signs the thing the boy was carrying (photo?) You can tell Paul was mad at the security guy for "man-handling" the poor little boy, who was about 6!
there are lots of videos (one official), articles, interviews, pictures and reports of that. MACCAMANIA in Germany
The little boy was pushed by his father. They were also in Amsterdam last year waiting at the hotel. The father was really pushing his son to obtain an autograph. The boy did not succeed then, because of security guys and the father was not amused. I feel sorry for the little boy, he had to wait for hours and hours around at the hotel and I doubt if he cares about Paul at all. ....
That's really sad that the dad was doing that to him. Wonderful of Paul though to have security bring the boy back to him, but boo on the dad for making his little son do that.

yes I saw it. Here is a video from this situation.
Pauls reaction was very likeable!thank you for posting the video, I also like that Paul brought the kid back. I can't believe how many people were waiting for him outside his hotel, that's fantastic! It's so nice to see how everyone is so welcoming to Paul. When Paul came to my town a few years ago, it was so quiet, there was no cheering or happy excited group of fans at his hotel/airport...

Many newspapers in Dusseldorf had a feature on "Paul will stay in Breidenbacher Hof hotel", so many people knew where he stayeed. That is different in some other cities, where only a select number of fans find out where he sleeps. I was flabbergasted when I saw the huge crowd at the hotel. Possibly the good weather and the fact that it was Saturday afternoon helped as well....

It boggles the mind that Paul McCartney continually avoids performing "Hope Of Deliverance" in the country where it was the biggest hit.
It's just nuts. They all know it. His voice could handle it. It was a massive hit. It would shake up a quite stale setlist. It just does not make any sense.
Wanna hear something funny? He just soundcheck'ed it in Paris. Oy vey...

Wait, what, he dropped the stories?!

Smart decision. The language barrier would have Macca hearing nothing but crickets if he'd told the Hendrix/Sgt. Pepper/Clapton/tune my guitar story there.
-
Maybe they learned English listening to Beatles records

Haha, he always did though, saw him do it in 4 non-English speaking countries I saw him at. That, and his cute translations and local "slang". Everyone speaks English in Europe anyway, especially in Germany and The Netherlands.

Dropped them in Tokyo too. Typical NOW he thinks of Deliverance. Another gig in Deutschland, yes? Berlin?

No problems understanding English in Europe.

I would have swatted the little tacker away like a fly.

Love is Paul:
Wow, what a wonderful evening, what a wonderful experience! Before the concert I was starting to get worried because of all the critical comments about Paul's voice here on the forum. However, luckily, there was no need to worry at all! Paul was in fantastic shape, his singing was fantastic! Paul should definitely keep performing - he is absolutely incredible. I noticed that the sound at the Arena was not really fine - there was some kind of echo, but they adjusted it in the course of the evening. At my seat (10th row) the sound was good. I really would like to thank the people in D?sseldorf - they were all in a party mood: as soon as Paul arrived on the stage, everyone around me got up - and we all danced, clapped and sang along for the whole concert. It was my eighth McCartney-concert in 23 years, and there were some "concert moments" in D?sseldorf that I will treasure forever: *) Paul arriving on stage and the standing ovation *) The intro of "Here, There and Everywhere" (I thought he was going to Play "The Long and Winding Road", but then he accompanied HT&E on piano!) *) His acoustic guitar solo on "In Spite of All the Danger"and the "Oh-oh-oh-oh"-part *) Paul's wonderful vocal performance of "Queenie Eye", "New", "Blackbird", "I've Got a Feeling" and "We Can Work It Out" (which sounded much better than e.g. three/five/six years ago) *) Paul's jokes and German language bits (ordering food: "Gem?seplatte"!) *) The extended jam of "Foxy Lady" *) Meeting Rusty (at the Restaurant "Zum Schiffchen") and Wix (on the street) the day after the concert. Both were incredibly friendly and gave us autographs. THANK YOU! WOW!! ...and there were many more fantastic moments Here are some links to News articles, etc. THANK YOU PAUL! Can you explain the "ordering food" story? Thanks! (I understand it means "vegetable plate" but what was the joke/story?)

Can you explain the "ordering food" story? Thanks! (I understand it means "vegetable plate" but what was the joke/story?)
Sure! Instead of the "Did you know that George was a great ukulele player..."-story before playing "Something" Paul explained (in English) that he had learned a little bit of German at school and that only he and George knew some words in German and were able to order food for the Beatles during the early Hamburg days. And then he imitated the way they would order food: "Zwei Frikadellen (meat balls), bitte. Gem?seplatte!"It was not really a joke, but it was a nice little anecdote - and people enjoyed it and laughed. After the song "Something" he said something like: "Thank you, George, for writing this wonderful song!" - and the crowd reacted enthusiastically. I thought it was a really fantastic performance of the song - with harmony vocals and all. I had heard him play the song several times before - but this time it seemed really special - and one of the final pictures on the screen was a photo of George, Paul and Ringo in 1995 which I had not seen before (Paul without sunglasses). Anyway, sorry for digressing.

Yea, I remember when I saw him in K?ln in 2011, he spoke quite a bit of German too. At the end of the show, he took LP covers from two people in the first row to sign those and said: "Schnellimbiss." During each show Paul speaks a bit of the language of the country he is in, but since he really speaks a little bit of German, the German shows get more of it. I am really looking forward to hearing his German in Berlin in two weeks.

Thank you! I love your review of Dusseldorf, I think the positivity is really what Paul's shows deserve, rather than analysing which note sounded how. I KNOW I will have a ball in Berlin and then in Prague two days later! Again, thanks for your review and observations.

no I don't work there I live on the other side of germany in the "east". I couldn't see what u see on the video I was standing ~30 m away on the streetcorner. But it's correct that Paul met the boy before he gets into the car.
