Love the books, HATE "Sherlock" on PBS, a show that is way, way too much in love with its own cleverness.
What a party pooper you are Bruce! It's clever because Sherlock is so clever!
No, there is a difference between a character being clever and the director being so in love with his own brilliance that it gets in the way of the story. Read Arthur Conan Doyle. His lead character is a genius, but the author's storytelling is gloriously straighforward and unpretentious. And, having created a character that is as loved 120 years later as when he created him, it seems Conan Doyle knew what he was doing.

Two words: Jeremy Brett.
Thanks for the recommendation! I just had a look at Brett's work on imdb and a quick search at YouTube produced many offerings including full Sherlock episodes - looking forward to checking out his work!
Enjoy! I think he is sherlock holmes, imho.
